Transportation to Seville City Center and Wednesday Plenary and Reception and Poster Session

A single city bus ticket in Seville (TUSSAM) costs €1.40, with cheaper rides with a rechargeable card (around €0.69/trip) or day passes (€5 for 1 day, €10 for 3 days) for unlimited travel. Payment possible directly by contactless bank card on the bus. 

1.  EuroStar Hotel to Seville city center (+ Fábrica de Tabaco):

One can take taxi or Uber, or take Bus 34  (at a bus stop close to the hotel in 2 minutes walk) and get off at the last stop (a large square with an equestrian statue,  'Avenida el Cid’)

2. EuroStar Hotel to Wednesday Plenary at Fábrica de Tabaco: 

One can take taxi or Uber, or take bus 34 (as mentioned in 1), get off at the last stop (Avenida el Cid),  walk (within 1 minute) to Calle San Fernando (San Fernado Street), then go into room Paraninfo in Fábrica de Tabaco (there will be conference road signs along the path)

3) Poster section and reception will be at  Patio 2 (courtyard 2) in Fábrica de Tabaco (there will be conference volunteers directing along the path).

Venue

The ICSDS will take place in the Hotel Eurostar, Seville, which is about 15 minutes drive to the historic center of Seville, by Uber or bus (there is a bus stop in front of the hotel). ICSDS Wednesday afternoon program, including the 3rd plenary followed by the reception and poster session will be held in the historical landmark Real Fábrica de Tabacos (Royal Tobacco Factory), located in the city center of Seville and now the main administrative building of University of Seville.

Seville in the heart of Andalucia in Southern Spain has long been an alluring travel destination, celebrated for its fascinating blend of rich history, multifaceted culture, stunning architecture, delectable cuisines, vibrant atmosphere, and varied geographic charms. Participants of the 2025 ICSDS will have the opportunity to appreciate Andalucian cuisine and flamenco performance from the ICSDS conference banquet, and to explore several spectacular historical landmarks with the conference tours, e.g., Real Alcázar, Seville Cathedral with its iconic Giralda bell tower, Real Fábrica de Tabacos (Royal Tobacco Factory, serving as the backdrop of the opera ‘Carmen’), etc.

How to sign up for the tours: Reservation for the Seville City tour can be made in the registration form. Reservations for the Reales Alcazares tour, the Seville Cathedral tour, and the Santa Cruz neighborhood tour should be made by e-mailing the travel agency manager ‘Patricia’ at pgonzalez@asesoresdeviajes.es. Please mention that you are with ICSDS group to get the special rate. The reservation should be made by November 15th. TOURS ARE TO BE PAID IN FULL AND CONFIRMED BY A PAY  LINK PROVIDED BY THE AGENCY. ALL TOURS REQUIRE MINIMUM OF 15 PEOPLE. 

SEVILLE CITY TOUR: Duration: 2 hours, Official guide in English, Minimum group size: 15 people. Price per person: 20€ (covered in the ICSDS registration fees for participants. If needed, $20 per additional ticket)

We'll meet at the indicated time at a central point in Seville and set off on a fascinating tour of this city. Through the tour, we'll pass by some of the city's most iconic landmarks, such as the Seville Cathedral and the stunning Royal Alcazar. As we admire their spectacular architecture, our guide will share the captivating stories about their history and significance in Seville's cultural heritage. Next, we'll stroll through the historic streets until we arrive at the luxurious historical Hotel Alfonso XIII, one of the most elegant hotels in Seville. Nearby, we'll see the Royal Tobacco Factory, with a striking blend of Renaissance and Baroque-style architecture on the building's facade. As we walk by, we learn of the building's contemporary purposes. Of course, no tour of Seville is complete without a visit to the quintessential Plaza de España, a symbol of the city and the perfect segue into a discussion about the 1929 Ibero-American Exhibition.

Royal Alcázar of Seville is the oldest royal palace in use in Europe. This spectacular palace complex was built in different historical periods with an elegant combination of Mudejar and Gothic architecture. Its stunning design in a mystic setting has made the Alcázar the highly sought after film set for numerous films, including most recently Game of Thrones.

CATEDRAL DE SEVILLA TOUR: Duration: 2.5 hours, Official guide in English, Minimum group size: 15 people. Price per person: 35€

Santa María de la Sede Cathedral, built on the site of the old mosque of Seville. Its dimensions will leave you speechless, as it's the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. We'll walk through and review its fascinating history, particularly notable are the main altarpiece and the Christopher Columbus tomb. This tour includes another must see architecture marvel Giralda (a minaret now converted into a bell tower), the undisputed symbol of the city. You'll be able to climb this tower on your own and enjoy the beautiful views of Seville from a height of 98 meters (321 feet).
