Teachers are vocally unsatisfied with the overall effectiveness of their most recent PD. When asked what was most effective about the last PD they attended, more than 10% of respondents said "nothing."
Follow up is critical for professional development to be successful. More than half of respondents said that no follow up was given and an overwhelming majority of teachers said follow up was only provided once or twice.
Respondents appreciated and preferred when PD is collaborative and interactive. They often commented positively about PD that allowed them opportunities to work with their teammates.
A frequent frustration shared by respondents was the lack of applicability of professional development to the content they taught in their classrooms. Many of them view having choices as a remedy for this. While that's not always possible, certainly, there are ways to involve more content areas into our PD.
Respondents appreciated when instructors were knowledgeable about their topic but expressed that this alone couldn't make a bad PD successful.
