Meet the Team

Derek Rusher

Strategist. Driver.

Impact maker.

Derek maintains a strong commitment to leadership and public visibility, recognizing that both are essential to grow and sustain the mission of the Impact Art. He actively works to expand Impact Art's reach with his hands-on leadership style and innovative troubleshooting.

Outside of Impact Art, Derek is President/CEO of the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce. He possesses more than 15 years of experience as an art teacher, and many more as a former collegiate athlete and coach. Altogether, Derek is passionate about supporting the growth and education of others.

Derek's favorite motto, "Do Right," is a tenet he picked up from his father. With his beautiful wife, Meggie, Derek continues to pass this teaching on to their four daughters.

Josh Arias

Developer. Connector. Fanatic.

His mind is constantly wandering, taking visual snapshots of the things around him. These images show up in the sketchbooks he fills with random doodles and project ideas for the Vice President of Development and Community Affairs for Impact Art . It could be a new sneaker design, a quick portrait of someone sitting across the room during a meeting or the start of a mural that covers a Kearney building. Art is therapeutic for Arias – a way to escape from a bad day and share his emotions.

Arias and his family, which includes three siblings, left L.A. in the late 1990s, landing in Lexington after a brief stop in South Carolina.

He started focusing more on art and began developing his own approach. By high school, he was experimenting with spray paint at his dad’s shop, using bold colors and shapes to make his work stand out like the graffiti he first saw on the streets of L.A.

Arias is always working on new projects. The small studio space inside his apartment is filled with paintings, crates of spray paint and dozens of pairs of sneakers – some from his personal collection and others he’s customizing to sell online or give to friends and family.

Katherine Arias

Designer. Supporter. Chill.

Impact Art's Vice President of Planning/Marketing was born in Los Angeles, California to El Salvadorian parents, she is the youngest and only girl in her family. Needless to say, her three brothers didn’t really know what to do with her. Eventually, they taught her everything they knew. She learned about basketball, drawing and, how to throw a punch; the foundation of any strong independent woman. After graduating from Lexington High School she went on to study at Hastings College and majored in Fine Art. In her time at Hastings, she chooses painting as her main medium. This is a medium that demands focus, patience, and attentiveness to detail. Her experiences with this medium offer her a unique perspective on IMPACT Art mural projects. When she is not painting or lending a hand with design projects for IMPACT Art she is working as an elementary school para, encouraging the next generation to love art.

Angelica Tapia

Relator. Calculator. Jive.

Angelica serves as Brand Management and the University of Nebraska at Kearney Liaison. Born and raised in Lexington, Nebraska, surrounded by her brothers and their interests, Angelica found a common interest in the arts. During high school, she had no interest in sports and found refuge painting. Currently a student at the UNK, she is studying Studio Art with an emphasis in painting and drawing. Within her free time, Angelica is a dancer for a regional Hip-Hop dance crew called Organix; the style she is more drawn to is urban dance. Angelica is also a dance instructor at a local dance studio.

Kameran ulferts

Communicator. Enthusiast. Gregarious.

Kameran is the newest addition to the Impact Art team. She is an intern for the summer who has taken some of the duties of public relations and advertising. After growing up in the small town of Fullerton, NE, Kameran came to Kearney and eagerly began studying art education at the University of Nebraska- Kearney.  As a future art educator, Kameran "vows to be an inclusive role model that is able to open her students’ minds and hearts to understanding other people’s perspectives." She plans to student teach in Houston, Texas, in the fall.
