I believe that one of the most important things when one teaches is to foster a space of care where people feel safe to ask questions and reflect openly about the course material. I recognize that my eclectic background, from history to literature to philosophy, has really helped me understand that there are multiple ways of thinking about the same issues. Trying to recognize and help students with their own thought processes has been one of my central aims in teaching. Throughout my experience as a teacher and as a teaching assistant, I have learned and understood the importance of being innovative, creative, flexible and aware of the audience that I teach.
