I have a BA in history from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), two Master's degrees, one in comparative literature from the University of Barcelona, and another in philosophy from UC Santa Cruz. Finally, I obtained my Ph.D. in philosophy from UC Santa Cruz in August 2021.
My primary research interest is in the field of philosophy of history and narrative with an emphasis on Mexican and Latin American history. I am particularly concerned with detailing the epistemic value of narratives and how they enhance our understanding of the world. In this context, I defend a view of history that claims that a “god’s eye view” of the past is nowhere to be found, rather we construct the past and its meaning from present circumstances and epistemic frameworks. Thus, my main exploratory questions can be summarized as follows: How exactly is the past constructed? Why can we have many interpretations of a single historical event? What type of meaning-making activity is history? How can we evaluate historical discourses? Which normative criteria that apply to historiography have features in common with science or art? How is narrative present in historical discourses? What type of epistemic tools do historians use?
I finished my postdoc at the Institute for Philosophical Research, UNAM in August 2023. I am currently the Program Coordinator of the Speakers Bureau at Humanities Washington.
