Established in 2020, the Image and Narratives Lab investigates how images function as cognitive and communicative systems that shape the production, interpretation, and circulation of knowledge across contexts. Moving beyond a purely aesthetic lens, the lab examines visual forms as structured carriers of meaning—embedded within cultural, social, and technological frameworks.

Situated at the intersection of visual studies, culture, and design research, the lab engages with images, illustrations, typography, and other graphic elements as semiotic systems operating in contemporary media ecologies. It interrogates how these elements encode, mediate, and transform information, and how viewers decode them in relation to prior knowledge, cultural conventions, and perceptual processes.
