On 10th May 2026, the lab hosted an Indie Comics Publishers/Creators Meetup - a space to connect, exchange ideas, and celebrate independent comics publishing and storytelling. Beyond talking about ideas and creative practice, discussions also revolved around the distribution, visibility, sustainability, and the need for a more mature and long-term approach to building this field.

Research scholar Arnav Kumar Tripathy recently completed his PhD synopsis presentation for his research titled "Systematic assessment of children's Odia handwriting legibility". His research focuses on developing a systematic, analytic, script-specific assessment method to evaluate the legibility of children's Odia handwriting, facilitating timely feedback and intervention to address their writing issues. 

The Typography course display presents a curated showcase of student explorations in letterforms, composition, and visual hierarchy. It features a range of works—from foundational exercises in type anatomy and spacing to advanced projects involving expressive typography, layout systems, and script-based design.

The workshop on sequential art introduces participants to the principles of visual storytelling through images arranged in sequence. It explores narrative construction, panel composition, pacing, and the relationship between text and image, emphasizing how meaning unfolds across panels as a structured system of communication and storytelling.

Research scholar Arnav Kumar Tripathy presented his paper on 'Development and Validation of the Odia Handwriting Evaluation Tool (OHET)' at the Paris Conference on Education 2025 held at Sorbonne University Paris (France) from 10-14 June 2025.

The lab frequently conducts visual communication workshops focused on illustration and design, inviting both campus students and outside participants. These workshops are crucial for engaging young minds through image-based interaction, while also educating them on the influence of images in culture.

A series of research workshops was conducted in Delhi and London between December 2022 and September 2023 to explore ways to integrate design thinking and visual storytelling into classroom teaching through exercises that could facilitate creative thinking in the classroom and beyond. 

Research scholar Arnav Kumar Tripathy presented his paper on 'Investigating the factors affecting the Odia handwriting legibility of the lower primary class children' at the European Conference on Language Learning 2024 held at University College London (United Kingdom) from 11-15 July 2024.
