A vector format like SVG will only make a difference if your screen is hi-res (like Retina or similar). I'd recommend to design the icons in larger sizes with the pixel grid in mind. Best would be multiples of 16px (32, 64, 128). Downscaling is always easier than upscaling.

or try give some high resolution of the file after exporting it to illustrator by the way what version of Illustrator do you use?Because in Adobe Illustrator CC they can export automatically the PNG file and you can decide what resolution of the image to put

So I saved the illustrator file without pdf compatibility and restarted. Then with and started, nothing changed in the Finder window. But I looked at the file from my old shared mac and in its Finder window, the file looked fine and not blacked out. So does that reveal that it is a problem with Finder on my new mac?

I am currently working on generating the icon assets for the company I work for. I am using Sketch, and am creating a large library of the icons. They are all Line icons (the style) and basically everything is a 1px line.

I am trying to determine if I should keep the icons in sketch all as strokes, or if I should use illustrator to have them remain in an editable format, and then convert them to shapes and import and use those in sketch.

I am using sketch to export the icons for development. Am using a mixture of mass export as SVG and PNG, and also setting all of them to be able to be exportable. We are using Abstract and the devs can click on an icon and download it from there.

Beginner here, I have been working on vector icons for a website and I've tried a few tutorials online to try to sharpen the image for web use. Every image I create and save on both Illustrator and Photoshop turn out blurry when exported to .PNG. I have snap to grid, pixel and point checked, I have tried to create pathways in photoshop and opening in illustrator, I save all images in 72 dpi. When I save, I choose "Save for Web" and save in 24-PNG. What am I doing wrong? Can someone help me out?

Does anyone know how to export a page of icons from Illustrator into Powerpoint and have them remain individual pieces of art? When I export, paste special, drag and drop, etc., the come in a one piece of art and I am unable to ungroup or use the .emf option. Thanks so much!

you can keep them in one artboard. group each one. and drag it to that panel. or juse select the icon and hold option, drag it and it will work the same for addign them to the panel one at the time. name them. Next, when you edit the icons, you will noticed they update on the panel

Lets say I am creating an icon in illustrator, which should be saved as an svg. If I create a large nice vector icon, lets say 800x800 pixels, I can always scale it as I want to, and its "easier" to work with. Problem is, when this icon is saved, the file size is big.If I instead make a small icon in illustrator, on a document size which has the proportions the icon will be used as, lets say 20x20, the file size is much smaller.

However, in answer to your primary question, it doesn't really matter what the page size is when creating vector icons. They could be either of the two sizes you mentioned. Or any other size. Whatever dimensions you choose, they should be rendered nicely at any final size you need.

I've been given about 100 pages worth of premade icons and symbols as part of a set of design guidelines for a document I'm to make for an established company. But the only resources I've been provided are in Powerpoint form, a program I haven't had to use since 2008 and have no design-based proficiency in. The rest of the company is marketing based so Powerpoint and Google Slides are their primary "design software alternatives."

This open source icon is named "adobe illustrator" and is licensed under the open source MIT license. It's available to be downloaded in SVG and PNG formats (available in 256, 512, 1024 and 2048 PNG sizes).

It's part of the icon set "Sketch Icons", which has 670 icons in it.

The following styles have this icon in it: Color

If you need this icon available in another format, it should be pretty straight forward to download it as an SVG image file, and then import it into apps like Easil, Fotor, Pixlr or Visme. Converting it to an ICO, JPEG or WebP image format or file type should also be pretty simple (we hope to add that feature to Iconduck soon).

Yes! This icon has been open sourced, and can be downloaded at no charge / for free. We also don't require you to sign up for Iconduck, but you can join our mailing list to get notifications on when new icons are available.

Lots of times, I will create icons like this on the fly, while designing interfaces in Photoshop. However, it's generally a good idea to keep these as separate assets in the event you want to do anything else with them.

Creating icons in Illustrator gives you more flexibility for your final output. You can paste them as shape layers into Photoshop, Sketch, etc. or use them directly in Illustrator for wireframing, interface design, or even print.

The secret is, I switched from one big artboard to a lot of small icon-sized artboards. This was a game-changer for me! It is way more comfortable, because from the very beginning you get the predefined icon boundaries. Also, it saves a ton of time exporting the icons, as you can export to different files all your artboards just in a few clicks.

2) These 5 buttons determine how your artboards will be placed. I personally love the first option, because icons are stacked into nice groups next to one another, and you can easily check if they are cohesive and look similar in weight.

5) So instead of creating one big arboard you should enter your icon dimensions. You probably already know that icons should be placed into square artboards. You could choose from the various icon sizes: 1616; 2424; 3232; 4848; 6464; 9696; 128128; 256256; and many others. Also, make sure all these values are set in pixels!

Size. Standard icon sizes for dense layouts are 16 x 16px, 18 x 18px, 20 x 20px, or 24 x 24px. So, icons are easier to align horizontally and vertically think about them in sizes that can be divided by four and centered on a rectangular canvas.

Alignment. Symmetry and balance will make your icons cleaner, clearer, and more consistent, and the result will be icon shapes that can be reused when adding to your set. When complete, icon forms should be aligned inside a pixel grid and not overlap the boundaries of the artboard. Pushing the points of a vector shape for perfect alignment takes some patience but putting time into these details at an early stage will benefit your design in the long run.

Style. Most icons are outlined or filled. Outline styles work well in interfaces that are lightweight, minimalistic, and modern. Filled, or duotone, icons are used most often in complex icon sets that require refined differentiation between icons. They can add depth, weight, focus, and contrast, so they can be especially beneficial on dark backgrounds.

Stroke cap. Defining the appearance of the ends of a vector path is another way to change an icon's aesthetic: Use a round cap to create a friendly look and feel; a butt cap cuts the stroke off at a right angle, which can make icons look more precise and formal; and a projecting cap extends the end of the stroke by half of the stroke weight, which can smooth the formality of a butt cap.

One last comment about icon accessibility: Naming your icons and supplementing them with screen reader-only content can make an enormous difference to people navigating your app or website using screen readers.

Establishing a sustainable design system for saving, updating, and sharing icons, for yourself and your team, can not only bring you peace of mind, it can also save hours of work. That process will vary from team to team but there are a few things to keep in mind when you first start the process.

Naming files. Some icon sets I work on contain more than 1,000 icons. There are some specific challenges for documentation and maintenance of large icon sets but of primary importance is creating a file-naming structure that supports search and share.

Production icons. Double check the icon implementation with the developer to make sure the appearance is not scaled or altered and has the right color and behavior on default, hover, and selected states. Then create specs and documentation for how the icon should look when implemented with the UI.

By this point, you should have some vector icons to work with. Well, we sell the vector icons for a fee. Occasionally, we distribute some vectors free and give away the link on our twitter. Follow us.

All icons in the icon pack have been thoroughly tested on both regular and high PPI screens (such as Apple's Retina displays) to ensure the best results on all platforms including iOS and Android devices.

The Linearicons icon pack includes a font that you can install and use in any application with a custom text tool (such as Adobe Photoshop, Sketch or Adobe Illustrator). This font comes with hundreds of ligatures, making it easy to find and use the icons. Using this font, you can type a keyword to bring up the icon associated with the word. Watch a video showing this feature. Additionally, this font comes with a set of basic Latin characters, the very same typeface that is used in this web page!

Using this icon pack, you will be able to make your own custom icon fonts via the IcoMoon App. With this approach, you will be able to make optimized fonts with a small file size rather than having to use a big font file containing hundreds of icons which you may or may not actually need in your projects.

This package becomes more valuable with the release of each update and its price will be raised. To value loyalty and early adoption, you will receive all future updates for free. The first version of the Linearicons icon pack was released with only 407 icons. The current version contains 1001 icons! 0852c4b9a8
