About Me
Hello! My name is Ilana (pronounced just like Alana)! I am currently a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM). I am working towards a Master's degree and PhD in the Mathematical Sciences, as well as serving as a graduate teaching assistant.
In the summer of 2024, I was a researcher at an REU funded by the NSF in Ponce, Puerto Rico. I had the amazing opportunity to perform combinatorial mathematics research under the guidance of Dr. Pamela E. Harris and Dr. Jennifer Elder on many different problems specifically related to parking functions (more info in Research). This has allowed me not only to gain proficiency in math research and writing but also to have many invaluable experiences regarding the beautiful culture of Puerto Rico. I even saw a real-life Pigeon-Hole Principle (Pictured to the right)!
I have a great passion for Mathematics and Astronomy and enjoy learning about them in my coursework and research, as well as on my own time. I also have a great interest in Mathematics and Science Communication. I enjoy giving talks and explaining complex topics in simpler and easier-to-understand ways. I think science and mathematics should be accessible to all, and if someone is willing to put the time and energy into trying to learn, there should not be a barrier to entry.
