What is a QR Code?
A QR code (quick response code) is a type of two dimensional (2D) bar code that is used to provide quick and easy access to online information through a camera on a smartphone or tablet.
A QR code encodes information such as web-site addresses, telephone contact numbers, geo-locations, e-mail addresses, etc. within its two-dimensional pattern of black-and-white squares. When scanned from a desktop or mobile app, a QR code allows the user to access information instantly by: opening the encoded URL, dialing a phone number, opening a Google Map or E-mail app, etc.
How is information embedded in the QR Code?
QR codes consist of an array of black and white squares in a two-dimensional grid as shown in the picture on the right. A QR code generator tool creates the QR code pattern (i.e., the black-and-white patterns in the grid) using the information provided to it for encoding. The information stored in a QR Code is usually a website addresses (URL), but anything can be stored - from contact data to calendar data, email addresses, phone numbers, SMS opening, plain text and geo-location. QR codes that encode different information have different patterns and look different from each other.
QR codes can store up to 7089 digits or 4296 characters, including punctuation marks and special characters. QR codes can equally encode words and phrases such as internet addresses. To know more about QR codes, check out this link
What are static and dynamic QR codes?
With a Dynamic QR code, you can track data and edit your URL or content at any time to any other URL. This saves you time and money on printing the QR code. With a static QR code, the user will be taken directly to your URL. However, data cannot be tracked and you cannot edit the URL.
What happens when you scan a QR Code?
Once you correctly scan the QR code, a pop-up notification will appear on top of your screen. Tapping the pop-up notification at the top of your screen will trigger an action contained within the QR code, such as opening a website, opening mobile App Store, playing an online video, sending an SMS, making a phone call, opening Google Map app, etc.
