Course planning. As most of the iJOS athletes are not familiar with course planning software we have created a Google Slide doc with local parks and woodlands in it, along with control circles. The children can therefore create a course by moving the control circles onto the features they want in their course. Based on our rough knowledge of where those who have been participating in the iJOS online sessions live and bearing in mind the Scottish Government 5 mile travel rule for leisure trips we thought the following areas’ maps would be suitable (obviously more choice for Inverness based athletes):

· Angus & Rona Laird – Holm Dell, or Ness Castle & Cuillaird Wood

· Charlotte Burton – School Wood, Farr

· Emma MacLean – Lochardil and Culduthel Woods, or Inshes Park, or Holm Dell

· Erica Cload - Lochardil and Culduthel Woods, or Inshes Park, or Holm Dell

· Finlay and Esme Sime – Ord Hill (or Gallowhill)

· Iona Scott - Lochardil and Culduthel Woods, or Inshes Park, or Holm Dell

· Isabella Sommerville – Lochardil and Culduthel Woods, or Inshes Park or Holm Dell

· Isla Walker - Lochardil and Culduthel Woods, or Inshes Park or Holm Dell or Craig Phadrig or Culloden

· Norbert Otreba – Reelig Glen

· Rory Black - Lochardil and Culduthel Woods, or Inshes Park or Holm Dell or Craig Phadrig or Culloden

[NB you can choose a different area – speak to your parents about which area]

Very important Information for parents:

You will be responsible for your child when they are completing their course. We have selected maps of local woodlands/parks, which should be familiar to them. However, there will not be other children out doing courses at the same time, and nor will there be any controls out. If you are not shadowing them we recommend they take a whistle and a phone – and even take those if you are shadowing in case you get separated. We can assist with course design, but because of all this we strongly recommend that they plan a course well within their comfort zone, in an area they have some familiarity with. If in doubt ensure it is easy and the controls are close to the path network or to line features (e.g. fences). Most important thing is to have fun.

Younger siblings: Whilst this email is directed to iJOS athletes the JST is open to all juniors, and younger siblings in Eagle Eyes and Talons can join in on the Zoom call and the map challenge competition. The more the merrier.
