Welcome to the IJLS Japanese Class registration page!
The next classes will be on Saturdays from January 20th thru March 9th. (7 sessions total; 60 minutes each)Â
All 7 sessions are scheduled to be on Zoom (online).
Payment (class fee):
We can only accept checks. (No cash, credit card or wire transfers)
$35 will cover all 7 sessions, and the checks must be payable to "Indiana Japanese Language School."Â
Payment due date is Saturday, January 13th (10am to noon). This is unfortunately "in-person only" and the registrants must visit Indiana Japanese Language School (c/o The Orchard School in Indianapolis at 615 West 64th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46260). Checks cannot be mailed to the school. Â
We will accept late enrollments if there are spots available. However, the class fee cannot be prorated or refunded for any missed sessions.

Which class should I take?
Beginning Japanese 1 (Saturdays 9:10 – 10:10AM): **Click here to register (10 students MAX)**
Start here if you have little to no background in Japanese! We will start from the beginning of Learn Japanese Online (online textbook). We will start with Hiragana (and some Katakana), pronunciation, numbers and simple phrases.
Beginning Japanese 2 (Saturdays 10:25 – 11:25AM): **Click here to register (10 students MAX)**
This is your class if you have some Hiragana memorized and are ready to learn more about basic Japanese grammar. Students are encouraged to work on Hiragana/Katakana on their own during the week. We will start at around Unit 12 of Learn Japanese Online (online textbook).Â
Intermediate/Advance Japanese Class (Saturdays 11:40AM – 12:40PM): **Click here to register (10 students MAX)**
Intermediate (11:40AM - 12:40PM): This is your class if you have all Hiragana and most Katakana memorized and are ready to learn more complex grammar and conversation. Students are encouraged to work on Katakana and Kanji on their own during the week. We will start at Lesson 6 of the textbook, Japanese From Zero! 3.Â
Advanced Japanese (11:40AM-12:40PM): Most of the lessons will be taught in Japanese and we will NOT use textbooks in this class. This class is recommended for students who have successfully completed at least three semesters of "Beginning Japanese" and are comfortable with speaking with natural speed and reading authentic Japanese materials. Students will engage in Japanese conversations with volunteer instructors who are native speakers of Japanese. We will focus on communication skills with advanced grammar, pronunciation and expanding your vocabulary. Students are encouraged to bring some stories to share and questions to ask!
