Brief Biography

Ashok Kumar Das  is currently working as a full Professor (effective from 1 January 2023) in the Center for Security, Theory and Algorithmic Research (Department of Computer Science and Engineering) of the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Hyderabad, India.  He also worked as a visiting faculty in 2022, with the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center, Old Dominion University, Suffolk, VA 23435, USA. Prior to these, he held academic position as Associate Professor (1 January 2017 to 31 December 2022) and Assistant Professor (1 June 2010 to 31 December 2016) in the Center for Security, Theory and Algorithmic Research of IIIT Hyderabad, India, and also Assistant Professor (July 2008 to May 2010) in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIIT Bhubaneswar, India. He received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India [January 2004 - June 2008]. He received the M.Tech. degree in Computer Science and Data Processing from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India, in 2000. He also received the M.Sc. degree in Mathematics (Minor: Computer Science) from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India, in 1998. Prior to join in Ph.D., he worked with C-DoT (Centre for Development of Telematics), a premier  telecom technology centre of Govt. of India at New Delhi, India from March 2000 to January 2004. During that period he worked there as a Research Engineer on various projects in the fields of SS7 (Signaling System No. 7) protocol stack, GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) and GPRS (General Packet Radio Services).

 


Dr. Das received the Institute Silver Medal for his first rank in M.Sc. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India in 1998. He has seventh All India Rank in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) Examination in 1998. He received the Divisional Award for his individual excellence in development of SS7 protocol stack from C-DoT, New Delhi, India in 2003. He received a Certificate of Special Mention for the best paper award in the First International Conference on Emerging Applications of Information Technology (EAIT 2006) in 2006 and also a best paper award in the International Workshop on Mobile Systems (WoMS 2008) in 2008. His biography was also selected for inclusion in the 26th Edition of the Marquis Who's Who in the World, USA in 2009. His research interests include cryptography, system and network security, blockchain, security in Internet of Things (IoT), Internet of Vehicles (IoV), Internet of Drones (IoD), smart grids, smart city, cloud/fog computing and industrial wireless sensor networks, intrusion detection, AI/ML security, and post-quantum cryptography. He has authored over 360 papers in international journals and conferences in the above areas, including 305+ reputed journal papers (including IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security, IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics, IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing, IEEE Consumer Electronics Magazine, IEEE Internet of Things Journal, IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics (Formerly, IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine), IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, IEEE Systems Journal, IEEE Sensors Journal, IEEE Communications Magazine, IEEE Internet of Things Magazine, IEEE Transactions on Network Science and Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, and IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics). He has served as a Program Committee Member for many international conferences.  He also severed as one of the Technical Program Committee Chairs of the International Congress on Blockchain and Applications (BLOCKCHAIN'19), Avila, Spain, in 2019, 2nd International Congress on Blockchain and Applications (BLOCKCHAIN'20), L'Aquila, Italy, in 2020, and International Conference on Applied Soft Computing and Communication Networks (ACN'20), Chennai, India, in 2020. He is on the Editorial Board of the IEEE Systems Journal, Journal of Network and Computer Applications (Elsevier), Computer Communications  (Elsevier), Journal of Cloud Computing (Springer), IET Communications, KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Systems, and International Journal of Internet Technology and Secured Transactions (Inderscience). He also served as a Guest Editor of Computers & Electrical Engineering (Elsevier) for the special issue on Big Data and the IoT in e-Healthcare, the ICT Express (Elsevier) for the special issue on Blockchain Technologies and Applications for the 5G Enabled IoT, and the Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing (SCI Indexed Journal) for the special issue on Security and Privacy for Smart Mobile Devices: Attacks, Challenges, and New Designs, 2020. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), USA. He has been listed in the Web of Science (Clarivate) Highly Cited Researcher 2022 in recognition of his exceptional research performance.
