Early career Researchers interested in a postdoctoral position are welcome to contact me before applying for IIT Bombay's Institute Postdoctoral Fellowship.
We use mathematical and computational techniques to solve challenging fluid dynamical problems. I am currently looking for highly motivated students with a background in fluid dynamics and computation for the following projects.
Monsoon Mission Project, "Improving short-to-medium range extreme precipitation forecasts with Climate Networks and hybrid physics-ML convection parameterization”.
Opening: Senior Research Fellow / Junior Research Fellow / Project Associate (The required qualifications for each job title are prescribed by the Govt. of India: https://dst.gov.in/sites/default/files/1687843045_Revision_of_emoluments_OM.pdf ). The successful applicant will work with two groups at the Climate Studies Programme at IIT Bombay to improve microphysics and cumulus parameterisations in numerical weather prediction (NWP) models. The work will primarily involve numerical simulations of atmospheric flows, including implementation of the super-droplet method into a large-eddy simulation package. The student will also interact with other groups working with data-driven and single-column models.
Background: Physics or engineering, with interests in fluid dynamics and thermodynamics.
Prior experience with the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) suite of tools will be highly preferred.
Pay etc.: commensurate with education and experience, as per GoI norms.
Starting date: IMMEDIATE or as mutually agreed.
Please contact me or Vishal Dixit (Climate Studies, IIT Bombay)
DST-SERB Project, "Direct Numerical Simulation of Turbulent Flows of Charged Suspensions".
Opening: PhD student (Junior Research Fellow / Senior Research Fellow) (The required qualifications for each job title are prescribed by the Govt. of India: https://dst.gov.in/sites/default/files/1687843045_Revision_of_emoluments_OM.pdf ). The successful applicant will work with Prof. Ratul Dasgupta's group at IIT Bombay to develop a numerical solver to study the dynamics of charged suspensions.
Background: Physics or engineering, with interests in fluid dynamics and electrostatics.
Prior experience with direct numerical simulations (DNS) of the Navier-Stokes equations is required. Experience with code-development will be highly preferred.
Pay etc.: commensurate with education and experience, as per GoI norms.
Starting date: As soon as possible. PhD position starting earliest December 2025.
Please contact me or Ratul Dasgupta (Chemical Engineering, IIT Bombay)
DST Project: "Urban Climate Extremes: Early Warning and Impact Assessment"
Opening: PhD student (Junior Research Fellow / Senior Research Fellow) (The required qualifications for each job title are prescribed by the Govt. of India: https://dst.gov.in/sites/default/files/1687843045_Revision_of_emoluments_OM.pdf ). The successful applicant will work with me and other colleagues (Vishal Dixit, Climate Studies; Amit Agrawal, Mechanical Engineering) to perform high-resolution simulations of flow over urban morphologies to identify temperature and pollution hotspots.
Background: Physics or engineering, with interests in fluid dynamics or atmospheric sciences
Prior experience with WRF or similar solvers is preferred.
Pay etc.: commensurate with education and experience, as per GoI norms.
