It puts them in the upper half of hosts we’ve tested, but well below the top five who have literally cut this average in half (between ~317–405 ms). The silver lining is that DreamHost has been able to hold this average consistently. In September 2017, they posted a 1,316 ms loading time that had us worrying. But ever since then, things have been smooth sailing. So you should be able to expect the same.

Above Average Uptime (99.94%): DreamHost’s 24-month average uptime is also above average at 99.94%: That’s a pretty good result, but it’s not even the best part.DreamHost has an uptime guarantee. Like other hosts, if your monthly average falls beneath that threshold, you’ll get a credit for the cost of the service.

97-Day Money-Back Guarantee: Their money-back guarantee is good for up to 97 days. That’s over a full three months to really make sure you’re happy. DreamHost doesn’t have any hidden terms or hoops to jump through that might jeopardize your refund, either. There are only a few cases where your refund might be deducted or not given, but most are pretty standard.

1. Cheap, Inexpensive Hosting: Currently, the iPage starts at $1.99/month. The value, as you’ll see in a minute, is good, too. They only have one shared hosting plan, so nothing is ‘held back’ to try and force you to upgrade.

The only catch is that you’ll have to pay for three full years upfront to get that $1.99/month price point. Otherwise, the regular (read: “renewal”) rate is $7.99/month.

2. Lots of Third-Party Applications: As mentioned, iPage’s ‘core’ offering is solid. Here’s a brief rundown of everything you get for that $1.99/month (times three years).

All hosting plans come with a free domain registration for the first year. This saves you ~$15/year right off the top.

You’ll also get a free email address and SSL certificate, too. Each email account is branded for your domain, includes email forwarding, autoresponders, spam filters, virus checking, and even POP3/IMAP accounts so you can set everything up with Outlook.

3.30 Day Money-Back Guarantee: It’s always comforting to hear that there is a 30 day money back guarantee. Some web hosts play trickery and will not give your money back in full. Not iPage.

4. 100% Uptime in the Last 30 Days: You can see the uptime chart below. For 30 days 100% is a great score! The level they aim at is 99.99%. I remember a downtime about two months ago. That lasted for one minute.

5. Live 24/7 Chat Support: The customer service team was always quick to answer any and all questions, and when there was a minor hiccup with the service (completely my own fault), their techs were on hand to give me the kind of step by step instruction that had me back up and better than ever.

Just like with other web hosts, chat support will look into your issue. However, with anything complicated, you will have to wait for email support to take care of it.

1. Lots of Extra Fees for Additional Services: t’s true that iPage’s core offering is solid. You basically get unlimited storage and bandwidth, plus access to dozens of different popular apps.

You also get a free domain for the first year, SSL certificate, and email.

The first additional fee that pops up is the renewal rate down the road. A renewal rate of $7.99/month isn’t terrible — we’ve seen others well over $10+/month.

However, it’s when you combine this with a few other additional fees that your pricing starts to snowball.

2. No Free Site Migrations: Most of the 30 web hosts we’ve reviewed will move an existing site to their servers for free. This is especially nice if you’re not a technical person and don’t want to waste time trying to figure out how to move site files, re-point your domain, and more.

iPage, however, does not offer any free site migrations. Instead, they will only move a site for a $150 one-time fee. That’s on the high side, compared to other hosts. Bluehost, for example, will charge you $150 but they’ll move up to five sites for that one price.

3. It’s Not Really “Unlimited” (Better for Smaller Sites): Most of the features listed on iPage’s shared hosting plan are “unlimited.”

Of course, nothing is truly “unlimited” in this world. The same holds true here, too.

But first, some good news: There are no ‘overage’ fees for using a lot of resources like disk space, assuming you’re using it correctly within iPage’s terms.

This means that if anything goes down, or an error occurs, they need to be available to fix the issue for you. GreenGeeks lives up to this promise by providing customer service agents to customers 24/7. Often, the tech will resolve the issue before the customer even becomes aware that the website has gone down.

If you have questions or general comments, you can connect to customer service agents in multiple different ways. You can send them a message via live chat, call them, or review their FAQs on their website’s knowledge base. Agents tend to respond very quickly to live chat, within one or two minutes. They generally are very knowledgeable about technology and can get to the root of your issue right away.

Uptime

Uptime is important when it comes to VPS. If a webpage takes more than a few seconds to load, it is likely that the visitor will become impatient and will leave the site. This is a lost customer to you and therefore means less revenue.

GreenGeeks guarantees an uptime of 99.90%. However, it has been proven that they can easily exceed this, as their average yearly uptime is 99.98%. This will equal out to downtime of around 4 hours per year. These downtime periods are usually very short, and often remain undetected because they are resolved so quickly

GreenGeeks claims to be a green web hosting provider, which is a bonus to some customers. They substantiate this claim by the amount of energy that they save during their daily operations, as GreenGeeks offsets its energy usage by 300%. The company purchases wind power credits, three times the amount that they use to power their business. GreenGeeks is a Green Power Partner with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

While known for its domain, email, and shared hosting services, GoDaddy offers options for virtual and dedicated servers as well. Pre-built templates come with the hosting company’s basic WordPress offering, or upgrade to managed WordPress services for top support or help with your online store.

Pros

Good Uptime of 99.97%: GoDaddy might be known for domain names, but they’ve figured out how to deliver some rock-solid uptime on their shared hosting plans, too.

There was a dodgy month in October 2019 with 99.84% uptime. But then they followed that up with a consistent 99.99% — 100% streak to bring the 24-month average up to 99.97% .

Great Page Loading Speed: We’ll admit: we didn’t see this coming.Years ago, you wouldn’t associate cheaper web hosts like GoDaddy with good performance. Yet, that’s exactly what they’ve done. Our GoDaddy test site has posted an average page loading time of only 554ms over the past 24 months.

Basic Cheap Plan is Good Value on Paper: When we originally reviewed GoDaddy, their cheapest shared hosting plan was too expensive, and the features were too limited. It seems like they’ve done a complete 180-degree turn since then, though.Now, the Economy plan pricing is only $1.00/month. No discount code needed.

GoDaddy has become relatively infamous for the number of upsells used to increase the price you’re ultimately going to pay.

2. Base Plans Lack Critical Features (No SSL Certificate, Backups, Security, or Site Migrations)

The top hosts we’ve reviewed will throw in features like an SSL certificate on every plan. These have become commonplace and are basically required to run a site today.

Unfortunately, GoDaddy doesn’t offer any of these in their base plans, which leads to a lot of the upsells along the way.

3. Renewal Rates are Higher, Too

GoDaddy’s Economy plan pricing starts at $1.00/month for twelve months.

However, all of their plans follow the industry-standard pricing trick where they double or triple the price when it’s time to renew.

This same Economy plan, as an example, will jump to $8.99/month when you renew.

You don’t get any extra features or better performance. But you will have to pay more.

GoDaddy Pricing 2022

Economy Plan: One website for $1.00/month with a 12-month commitment (renews at $8.99/month). You get 100 GB storage, unmetered bandwidth, free business email and a free domain name for the first year.

Deluxe Plan: Unlimited websites for $7.99/month with a 36-month commitment (renews at $11.99/month). It comes with all of the Economy features, plus unlimited storage and subdomains.

Ultimate Plan: All Deluxe features and more for $12.99/month with a 36-month commitment (renews at $16.99/month). Includes two times the processing power and memory, a free SSL certificate for the first year, premium DNS, and unlimited databases.

Conclusion

If you are on a low budget or just starting out I recommend Bluehost. If you have some money saved up and you want to go for the best I recommend Kinsta.
