11/29: Issaquah Transportation Advisory Board

The City of Issaquah is forming a new advisory board to help guide future transportation in Issaquah. This new board will provide transportation policy recommendations to the City Council and staff, but more importantly, support the City in the development of a Mobility Master Plan. The Mobility Master Plan is the long range planning document which will better coordinate transportation with other city systems and prioritize city investments for transportation.

The board is reserving a voting seat and an alternative seat for youth representation, because having perspective from people from different backgrounds and ages is very important for informing a planning process, particularly for transportation. For students, participation on this board introduces them to the transportation world, but also concepts and modern practices related to city planning, community development, civil engineering and local government operations. They're looking for any sophomore or junior students who are interested, preferably with professional experience or personal experience in using transit, riding a bike or walking to get around Issaquah. You can fill out the application here. They're currently running through phone interviews to learn more about people’s interests but online application will remain open for a few more weeks. Stephen Padua, Senior Transportation Planner, will make his membership recommendations to the mayor mid-December and have the group’s first meeting at the end of January.

For now, the new board is scheduled to have the meetings on the 4th Tuesday of each month at the City Council Chambers starting in January 2019. As they begin to assign the board appointments, they'll speak with everyone on availability to determine if a new date/time/location needs to be considered but for now, please expect the meetings to follow the above information. The Transportation Advisory Board's primary item in 2019 will be developing a new Mobility Master Plan, and then implementation in later years. So for the first 2-3 months in 2019, meetings may be every other week to help get the new board ready for their involvement in the master planning process.

If you have any questions about this invitation or the information, please feel free to contact Stephen Padua at
