About Kat

Dear students,

Hello! As you all know by now, my name is Katherine (Kat), and I will be your teacher for the next few months. I am very excited to meet all of you.

I am from California, from a little town called "Chico". It is located in the valley and is surrounded by a beautiful park called Bidwell. I lived in Chico until I was 18, and then moved on to go to the University of California, Davis where I studied International Relations.

I play and teach piano, and my other hobbies include writing for/editing a political blog in the United States, and listening to podcasts.

My passions in life are meeting new people, and getting to know new places. I love travelling, but I especially enjoy learning to live in a new country. I think it's important to understand the many different ways people live life. After University, I moved to Melbourne, Australia, where I spent 6 years working for small businesses. I also started tutoring at this time - I taught ESL and Piano :)

After living in Australia (where I met Garth), we decided to change our careers and obtain CELTAs. We took the CELTA course in Ha Noi, Vietnam, and we spent a year teaching there. Hanoi is amazing, and there are many opportunities for English teachers there.

Garth and I decided to come to the Americas because I wanted to be closer to my family in California. We found a job at International House and moved to Cuernavaca. It's a beautiful city!

I am still growing as a teacher and hope that you will all be honest about what you want from the class. I am always open to receiving feedback from you, and hope you will never be afraid to ask any questions or make suggestions.

I can't wait to get to know all of you. I know we will have a great few months!
