Features
Masthead - Name of Newspaper
Headline - Normally uses puns, rhyme, alliteration etc
Subtitle - Elaborates on Headline
Byline - name of person who wrote article
Crosshead - Short phrase between two paragraphs
Picture/Graphics
Jumpline - 'continued on page __'
Advert
logos, pathos, ethos - Appeal to logic, emotion, credibility
Emotive language
Hyperbole - exaggeration
Appeal to fear - trying to make people afraid
Pun - play on words
Antithesis - contrasting words eg black and white, rich/poor
Simile, metaphor etc
Asyndeton, polysyndeton- list without 'And', list with 'And'
anaphora, epiphora- repeating start/end of clauses
Inversion - inverting the sentence
Hypophora - asking then answering a question eg Can we all pass this assessment? Yes we can!
Rhetorical question - question which doesn't need answer
Repetition
Anadiplosis - device in which the last word or phrase of one clause, sentence, or line is repeated at the beginning of the next. eg Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.
Antimetabole - phrase or sentence that is repeated in reverse order using the exact same words and grammatical pattern
