The library provides materials and resources for information, intellectual development and enrichment and entertainment of the researchers both inside and outside the institution. The library should exert effort to:

 

The Library offers the following services to library patrons:

Library Orientation

An orientation program is given to all new students during the start of each semester. Students are welcomed and introduced to the Library, including its staff, services, policies, rules and regulations.

Reader's Services and Online Services

Patrons are personally attended to by guiding them in their research and instructing them on the proper use of library materials (print and online), bibliographic tools and facilities.

Information Retrieval

The process, method, and procedure used to selectively recall recorded information from a file or data.

 

Referral Services

A type of reference transaction in which a patron with an information need is directed to a reputable person or agency outside the IFRS library, better qualified to provide assistance. Referral letters are provided to the students for free.

Printing/Photocopy Services

IFRS Library also provides printing and photocopy services with corresponding fees. Books and Journals, except the theses, may be photocopied.

Discussion Room

Discussion rooms are available for currently enrolled students. Inquiries for the use of these rooms should be made at the Library Circulation Counter.

Exhibit

A portion at the ground floor of the Institute is reserved for display cabinets. Students may also use this facility upon request. Request for the use of the exhibit materials should be addressed to the librarian.

Internet Connected Computer Units/Wi-Fi

To maintain its role as a public provider of information, WiFi and Internet ready computer units are available at the library. These can be used free of charge. To access information from the internet, users need to log and ask the Wi-Fi password from the librarian.


Sections/Collections

a.  General Reference Section - it consists of materials such as series books, bibles, dictionaries, atlases, encyclopedias, almanacs and yearbooks. These materials are marked with the big “REF” on its spine and are strictly for photocopy purposes and ROOM USE ONLY.


b.  Periodical Section - current issues of newspapers, magazines, journals, both local and foreign, are available in this section. Information files (clippings, pamphlets, maps) are also found in this section. These materials are for ROOM USE ONLY. Clipping Files may be allowed to be photocopied.


c.   General Book Collection (General Circulation) - collection of non-fiction books such as social science, language, history and literature.


d.  Filipiniana Collection - it consists of books about the Philippines, written by Filipinos in native or foreign language. These books are marked with "Fil" on its spine.


e.  Theology - consists of books on philosophy and theories of religion, history of Christianity and Christian Church, Sects and other religions.

 

f.        Women and Religion - consists of books related to women studies and feminist perspectives on religion.

 

g.  Spirituality - consists of books pertaining to Christian experience, practice and life, Christian observance in family life and spiritual renewal.

 

h.  Scriptures - consists of sacred books and scriptures of sects and reform movements.


i.        Reserve Book Section - consists of textbooks and collateral-reading materials recommended by the faculty as required reading in courses and for the shared use of all students enrolled in these courses. These materials also include mainly the newly acquired library materials.

 

j.        Graduate Collection - consists of materials intended mainly for MA students. These collections are open for all the students, faculty and researchers.

 

k.  Thesis/Major Papers - consist of theses and four major papers submitted and endorsed to the Library as supplemental reference materials especially for students who are undertaking their research studies.
