Session 1: Overview, Current Solutions, and Future Directions in Encrypted Control and Optimization
Moritz Schulze Darup received a Diploma degree in Mechanical Engineering, a B.Sc. in Physics, and a Ph.D. in Control Engineering from the Ruhr-Universität Bochum in 2008, 2010, and 2014, respectively. He became Assistant Professor and leader of an Emmy Noether group for encrypted control in 2019 at Paderborn University. Since 2020, he is Full Professor for Control and Cyberphyiscal Systems at TU Dortmund University. His research interests include secure, predictive, and data-driven control.
Takashi Tanaka is an Associate Professor at the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University. He received his B.S. from the University of Tokyo and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in aerospace engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Tanaka was a Postdoctoral Associate with the Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2012 to 2015, and a postdoctoral researcher at KTH Royal Institute of Technology from 2015 to 2017. He was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at the University of Texas at Austin between 2017 and 2024, where he was an Associate Professor in 2024. Dr. Tanaka's research interests include control theory and its applications, most recently the information-theoretic perspectives of optimal control problems.
Junsoo Kim received the B.S. degrees in electrical engineering and mathematical sciences in 2014, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering in 2020, from Seoul National University, South Korea. He held a Postdoctoral position at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, until 2022. He is currently an Assistant Professor at Seoul National University of Science and Technology, South Korea. His research interests include security problems in networked control systems and encrypted control systems.
Session 2: Recent Advances in Cryptography and Industry toward Applications
Kyoohyung Han is a Senior Engineer in the Crypto Research Team at Samsung SDS Research, specializing in Privacy-Enhancing Technologies (PETs). He earned his Ph.D. in Cryptography from Seoul National University in 2019, followed by a post-doctoral fellowship and industry experience at Coinplug. His research primarily focuses on the design and optimization of Homomorphic Encryption (HE) and Secure Multi-party Computation (MPC) protocols, including Private Set Intersection (PSI) and Oblivious Pseudorandom Functions (OPRF), to provide scalable and robust privacy solutions for real-world applications.
Howard Park is the Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer at DESILO, a company specializing in Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) along with other privacy-enhancing technologies (PET). A multidisciplinary strategist, Howard served as the Head of Strategy and Product Manager at Streami. He holds an MS in Philosophy from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and studied computer engineering at the University of Waterloo. His work bridges the gap between complex cryptographic theory and production-grade software infrastructure for the global FHE ecosystem.
Seunghwan Lee is the Chief Executive Officer and Representative Director of waLLLnut Co., Ltd., a deep-technology company focusing on blockchain privacy, privacy-preserving computation, and cryptographic system optimization. He is also affiliated with Hanyang University, where his research spans cryptography, secure signal processing, and cyber-physical systems.
Dr. Lee’s recent research emphasizes latency-first fully homomorphic encryption (FHE16), with particular interest in primitive-gate-based computation, compact and hardware-friendly bootstrapping, and the interplay between FHE and multiparty computation.
As the CEO of waLLLnut, Dr. Lee leads the development of cryptographic technologies for privacy-preserving blockchain systems, including secure smart contract execution, off-chain and layer-2 computation, and efficiency-oriented cryptographic primitives. These efforts naturally extend to broader encrypted computation settings, where strict latency and resource constraints are also critical, such as real-time and feedback-driven systems.

Joowon Lee received the B.S. and combined M.S./Ph.D. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from Seoul National University, Seoul, South Korea, in 2019 and 2026, respectively. She is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at Department of Decision and Control Systems, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. Her research interests include data-driven control and encrypted control.
Kaoru Teranishi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Information and Physical Sciences, Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, The University of Osaka. He received his B.S. degree in electronic and mechanical engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Ishikawa College, Ishikawa, Japan, in 2019, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical and intelligent systems engineering from the University of Electro-Communications, Tokyo, Japan, in 2021 and 2024, respectively. From 2019 to 2020, he was a Visiting Scholar at the Georgia Institute of Technology, GA, USA. From 2021 to 2024, he was a Research Fellow at the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), Tokyo, Japan. From 2024 to 2025, he was a JSPS Overseas Research Fellow. During this period, he was a Postdoctoral Research Affiliate at The University of Texas at Austin, TX, USA, and a Visiting Scholar/Post-Doctoral Research Associate at Purdue University, IN, USA. His research interests include control theory and cryptography for control systems security.
Jihoon Suh is currently a research scientist at Anduril Industries. He received BS and MS degrees in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, in 2018 and 2020 and PhD from School of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Purdue University in 2026. From 2015 to 2021, he has served in the US Army. His research interests include encrypted control, reinforcement learning, and space domain awareness.
Philipp Binfet received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from Paderborn University in 2019 and 2021, respectively. He is currently working as a research assistant in the Control and Cyberphysical Systems Group at TU Dortmund University, Germany. His research interests include secure computation as well as privacy-preserving optimization and control.
Sebastian Schlor received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree in Engineering Cybernetics from the University of Stuttgart, Stuttgart, Germany, in 2017 and 2020, respectively. Since 2020, he has been a Ph.D. student at the University of Stuttgart with the Institute for Systems Theory and Automatic Control under the supervision of Prof. Frank Allgöwer. His research interests include the area of privacy and security of dynamical systems and encrypted control and optimization. Sebastian Schlor received the Outstanding Student Paper Award 2024 of the IEEE CSS TC Security and Privacy.
Rijad Alisic is a Wallenberg Postdoctoral Fellow at the Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems (LIDS) at MIT. Previously, he was a WASP Postdoctoral Researcher in the Division of Decision and Control Systems (DCS) at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. He defended his Ph.D. in November 2023 on defending cyber-physical systems against learning-based attackers, and his Licentiate thesis in 2021 on the privacy of sudden events in cyber-physical systems. He has held visiting positions at SeoulTech, Seoul National University, Lund University (2024), and the University of Melbourne (2022). His research interests include privacy, security, forensics, and control of cyber-physical systems.
