Abstract
As control systems become increasingly interconnected through networks and cloud-based services, concerns over data security are growing. A promising and focused topic in control system security is the adoption of cryptographic schemes that allow computations to be performed directly on encrypted data, thereby protecting not only during transmission but also throughout the computation process. This full-day workshop explores new challenges arising at the intersection of cryptography and control and systems theory.
The workshop aims to present general overviews and future directions in encrypted control community as well as recent advances in cryptography and industry toward applications. By bringing together perspectives from dynamic system and cryptography, the workshop aim to highlight novel approaches that have not been traditionally considered in either field. The presentations may cover various topics such as recursive constraints on dynamic operations in encrypted systems, methods for reducing computational and communication complexity depending on the types of operations, monitoring techniques over ciphertext against integrity attacks, and cryptography-based approaches that improves applicability, more functionality, and enhanced security. The workshop will not only introduce recent research directions in encrypted control, but also cover the latest methods, trends, and application-oriented initiatives presented by experts in cryptography and security.
The workshop goes beyond conventional oral presentations by incorporating live demonstrations using Quanser’s experimental devices, with the aim of highlighting the practical applicability of the recent methods. Through real-time demonstrations, the workshop showcases that modern cryptosystems and encrypted control techniques can indeed be deployed in practice, despite inherent constraints in functionality and limited computation and communication resources. By demonstrating multiple approaches on the same application model or control problem, the workshop also enables a direct comparison of the strengths and limitations of recent methods, fostering a deeper and more concrete understanding of their real-world feasibility.
