Teaming Up: Strengthening connections between SI Leaders and Tutors
Presenters: Rhonda Rumble & Caitlin Simpson, Arizona State University
How do you provide relevant support to students when SI Leaders or tutors are not available? Through the use of digital peer communities, an organized collaboration between SI Leaders and tutors through a shared drive, and a common goal to support students.
Empowering Students to Take Charge!

Stop hand holding! What can we do as professors, tutors, and leaders to encourage students to find success while actively breaking the dependency cycle? What Do I Need from This Space? Using Norm-Setting and Community Agreements to Shape Inclusive, Engaged Learning Communities

We all want learning communities where students feel safe being vulnerable, engaged, and supported, but the creation of such a space is easier said than done. One way that the Chaffey College SI Program facilitates the creation of these spaces is through Norm-setting and Community Agreement activities. Come learn how Chaffey College uses the question, "What do I need to feel supported in a learning environment?" to invite students to join in the creation of brave learning spaces!

LA-SI Integration Model

The Supplemental Instructor-Learning Assistant model fosters collaboration between these learning resources by having the SI participate in in-class activities and the LA participate in out-of-class activities. This model has resulted in improved student outreach and support for the students.
Finding the Fun in Fundamentals: A Relevance-Based Approach

From charge to calculus, some concepts are hard to “sell” to introductory-level students, yet are fundamental for success in higher-level courses in science and engineering. This student-developed presentation explores different approaches for peer educators to establish the relevance of such topics and encourage their retention for future application.

Let's Co-op: Redesigning Competitive Games in Session

Playing games, like Kahoot or Jeopardy, are great for student engagement, assessing where students are, and boosting those attendance numbers. It’s also not the healthiest in terms of fostering a sense of belonging if you’re cultivating an environment of winners and losers. Let’s reconfigure our favorite games into something cooperative.
