I believe that education is highly personal and should be individualized for ALL children. I believe in adapting instruction to meet the needs of the whole child, including social and emotional learning. I am neuro-diveristy affirming and think evolving continually is paramount to our success as a society.
I am not an advocate. My goal is to help equip you with the knowledge and confidence to be your child's advocate. I want to collaborate with you so that you understand the process well enough to know how to navigate your child's journey in school.
What will my child's specially designed instruction look like in the classroom?
How are you supporting my child's self regulation, executive function, self determination/advocacy skills in their IEP?
How will we track usage of the accommodations provided in the classroom?
Are the IEP goals aligned with the general education curriculum and based on data?
Are the IEP goals in line with my child's future goals outside of high school?
Forward progress and accessible education is the goal. In every IEP, there should be a clear indication of how the educators will track and monitor progress on goals. During regular grade reporting periods, you should also receive a report on the progress your child is making on their IEP goals in addition to grades.
