In 2011, I graduated from the University of Texas with a major in Kinesiology and a minor in Coaching. I received my Masters in Educational Administration from Lamar University in 2018.
My most recent role as a special education instructional specialist was in the public school system working at the district level coaching teachers how to write effective IEPs (plan) from a quality FIE (evaluation). I was also charged with the task of helping teachers implement IEPs in various classroom settings. Providing professional development to administrators, teachers and parents with the goal of educating all parties was my primary responsibility. I served as the transition coordinator for our school district to help teachers and parents develop a transition plan for their students that aligns with appropriate future goals. As the representative from the district, I attended several IEP meetings to bridge the divide between the parents and school. I am an effective communicator who has experience gaining respect from schools, administrators and parents.
Prior to my role in special education, I worked as a general education middle school science teacher and coach of several different sports. I have a coaching mindset and the perspective of how general education classrooms are run. I have observed and provided feedback to teachers in classrooms at numerous schools from elementary through high school.
Most importantly, I know how to identify quality instruction and how to impact a classroom through adapting to meet a student’s unique needs. Bringing families a sense of peace that their child is receiving the best type of support and education that can be provided was and always will be my mission.
