About the Department

• The Dept. of Information Technology, at the Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM), Salt Lake, Kolkata came into existence in 1999 with a Vision “To produce Creators of Creative Technological Solutions” for the benefit of Engineering, Science and Technology and the Nation on a larger scale. It has always strived to fulfil its Mission to impart Value Based Education and promote Research and Development at the International level. 

• The Dept. of Information Technology has received Accreditation twice by the NBA and has since been running its programs successfully.

• The Dept. of Information Technology began with its first batch of 40 students for the B.Tech Course. The student intake for the Under Graduate Course gradually increased from 40 to 60 seats in 2001 and presently admits 120. 

• The Department achieved another feather in its cap with the initiation of the Post Graduate Course (M.Tech) in 2011. Since its inception, the Dept. of Information Technology has been strengthening its resources and providing state of the art facilities to foster the spirit of learning and development of professional skills. 

• The IT Dept. makes full utilisation of its 7 Laboratories in its attempt to put into practice theoretical concepts and getting the students industry ready. It also encourages students to take up challenging projects and internships at the National and International level in order to fine-tune their technical skills. 

• The Dept provides opportunities for them to join various student chapters such as NEN, SPIE, and OSA etc. in addition to other extracurricular activities. It has opened avenues to promote Entrepreneurship among students and instill in them the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility. In its attempt to pursue excellence and explore greener pastures, the Dept. hosts a strong team of qualified and experienced Faculty Members who work in co-ordination with the budding engineers.

PSO 1: Employable: Will be able to have a successful professional career in Industry, Government, Academia, and Defence as an innovative engineer in a team.

PSO 2: Higher Education: Will be capable to pursuing higher studies/research in the field of Engineering and other allied industries.

PSO 3: Entrepreneurs: Will be prepared for a successful career by meeting ever increasing demands required by Computer Science and Engineering profession and will be equipped enough to become an entrepreneur.

PSO 4: Ethical: Will cultivated professional and ethical attitudes with effective communication skills, teamwork and multidisciplinary approach related to engineering issues.

Program Specific Objectives (PSO’s)

PSO 1: Connect learning from Core and Specialization as well as Interdisciplinary courses of CSE (IoTCSBT) to excel in technological advancements in the field of analysis and design of systems and processes to obtain the best solution to real world problems.

PSO 2: Achieve software skills relevant to Research and industry practices in the field of CSE (IoTCSBT) along with the soft skills like perseverance, judicious through process while performing industry interactions.

"It gives me colossal pride and pleasure to introduce the Department of Computer Science & Engineering with specialization in Internet of Things, Cyber Security & Blockchain Technology. The Department was founded in 2020.

• CSE (IOTCSBT) is the most booming discipline that fosters at the cross road of new drifts in computer science. Department of CSE (IOTCSBT) is dedicated to excel in outcome based teaching, skilling and implanting a sense of pride and confidence in our students. Our objective is to make budding engineers with the latest technical knowledge and expertise by providing them with the best teaching faculty, lab amenities, outstanding development environment and admirable infrastructure. 

• The syllabus is designed in a way to strike a balance between professional knowledge and personal skills. All the academic programs are periodically reviewed and updated to incorporate the latest trends in Industry 4.0 driven society.

• We are proud of our strong academic programs, which are based on theoretical and practical knowledge and match well with the requirements and demands of the industry. 

• Numerous technical and non-technical Seminars, Workshops, Competitions are arranged and organized by the department & students to witness the embryonic talent and offer professional openings to the students. Our motivation is aimed at nurturing students to provide technical skills, professional grooming and guidance by proper mentoring. We as a team determined to take the department to reach greater heights of success and glory and prepare for the forthcoming challenges.

• We are committed to students by offering short term courses and pre placement training classes that foster critical and analytical thinking and build the necessary skills to succeed in the industry. Sitting head-on in an Engineering Faculty, the Department of CSE (IOTCSBT) is focused on inventing innovative, correct solutions to hard problems, whilst ensuring optimal execution of the solutions with the aspiration to create patents. We regularly conduct entrepreneurship development programs which aim to train the engineering graduates in the essentials of conceiving, planning, initiating and launching an economic activity or an enterprise successfully.
