Taiwan Society of Animal Welfare Science (TSAWS) is to promote animal welfare through animal welfare science research, education, and policy development. Our mission is to advance the welfare of all captive animals through collaboration among scientists, policymakers, and stakeholders. We strive to provide evidence-based policy recommendations and practices to improve the quality of life for all captive animals, addressing issues ranging from farm animals, companion animals, and exhibition animals.
In addition to its annual international conference, TSAWS works closely with central and local governments, as well as industries related to animals and animal exhibitions, to build professional capacity. TSAWS designs and delivers continuing-education courses and workshops on topics such as welfare assessment; enrichment and training; animal–visitor interaction design; and risk management and safety. We also provide advisory services to animal exhibition facilities—including on-site visits, needs assessments, staff training, improvement-plan design, and follow-up monitoring—to help operators implement evidence-based welfare practices.
TSAWS also supports the development and review of regulations and policies governing animal exhibitions by offering science-based, operationally feasible recommendations. We conduct on-site observations and evaluations of exhibition practices, produce professional reports with prioritized actions, and work with competent authorities and operators to institutionalize monitoring and continuous improvement—ensuring that animal welfare, education, and safety advance in parallel.
