What countries were impacted the most with COVID cases?

Countries leading the number of covid cases in the world had been changing over time affected by regional waves and public policies. Here, we would like to show how the top 12 countries with most cases reported where changing from positions in the ranking from 2020 to 2022

We can see from the plot that as expected countries with very high number of people, are leading the ranking (such as US, India and Brazil). However, this is not 100% consistent as countries like China are not here and this is probably because of the measurements taken by different governments that show how significant good public policies have been in this process.

It is also interesting to see how at the beginning European countries were the ones struggling the most with this situation. However, at some point the top 3 are consistently not European countries that kept leading the number of covid cases from the rest of this pandemic.

On a happy note on this topic, by going through more than two years of fighting with COVID-19, we are almost there! For example, the U.S. is ending the mask order in most of the states after two years. Thankful for those who work in the front-line combating with virus and supporting our communities.
