INTRODUCTION :
Damak-IDP Community Excellence Awards is a program designed with the idea to help facilitate a resolving solution to sanitation challenges in the country especially in some selected communities in the Ashanti Region,” and will be extended nationwide in the nearby future.
The idea was scaled out of the fact that, government and international organizations’ have tried in so many diverse ways to help mitigate sanitation issues but little have been achieved.
However, Damak Sanitation Health Watch - Ghana believes , taking the idea close to the people in the communities where they would be actively involved in the fight against poor environment will further enhance and redeem the image of our communities.
Objective:
1. To recognize and honor individuals and organizations who have made outstanding contributions towards promoting sanitation and hygiene practices in their communities.
2. To motivate opinion leaders and those who matter in ensuring that our communities are cleaned.
3 .To further inform and empower communities’ leaders to see the need to keep, their environment clean.
Modalities :
In achieving this, Damak Sanitation, will select 10 to 15 communities within one district in a scale of preference in collaboration with sanitation experts to nominate the best clean community and award the chief, assembly member and other government officials as a sign of good work to motivate other communities to emulate.
In order to ensure effective and efficiency, community (s) would be awarded base on standards of the sanitation laws, however, focus on how the community disposes waste, the number of household toilet facilities, waste dumping site and how periodical the community conducts clean-up exercises .
All these areas would be considered with the help of the district sanitation department.

Eligibility:
Open to individuals, community groups, non-profits, for-profits, Assembly Members, Metropolitan, Municipal , District and government organizations in Ghana .
Selection Criteria:
Impact - The extent to which the initiative has improved sanitation and hygiene practices in the community.
Sustainability - The ability of the initiative to continue delivering positive results in the long-term.
Replicability - The potential for the initiative to be adapted and implemented in other communities.
Creativity - The innovative approach taken to address sanitation and hygiene challenges.
Award Prize:
A cash prize, certificate, citation, plaques, sanitation kith (Dustbins, shovel, spades, wheelbarrows) and recognition at a public ceremony.
Submission Deadline : Thre times a year (all 4 months)
At December 14th is the grand ceremony (19. Nov. will be at a national level will come off Annually on World Toilet Day)
Submission Process:
Online submission through a dedicated platform, including a detailed description of the initiative and its impact, as well as supporting materials such as photos, videos, and testimonials.
Jury Panel :
An independent panel of experts in the field of sanitation and hygiene, including academics, public health professionals, and community leaders.
