The Idea Lab has two Ultimaker 2+ 3D printers at both the North and Lakeshore campuses, all of which are available for current students, staff, and faculty to use free of charge.
Step 1: Successfully complete one of the following:
our online tutorial (which takes anywhere between 20 minutes - 1 hour)
our in-person workshop (approximately 2 hours).
Step 2: Reserve a 3D printer at North or Lakeshore campus.
Note: bookings will only be approved if Step 1 has been completed.
No, there is no test to complete or pass. However, throughout the tutorial you will encounter knowledge-checks. These are short activities that are an opportunity for you to evaluate or apply what you have learned in each section of the tutorial.
Please note that the tutorial does feature a short form which must be completed so that Idea Lab staff can approve your 3D printer bookings.
We are always delighted when people with 3D printing experience want to use our equipment and spaces.
If you have 3D printed before, we recommend choosing the online tutorial option, as it is has a shorter, customized pathway for those with prior experience.
It is important that you still complete this tutorial as it contains valuable information about our booking process and guidelines, as well as a form that anyone who wishes to use our 3D printers must complete.
