About Us

Organizational Background

The Institute for Development and Econometric Analysis (IDEA) Inc. is a non-stock, non-profit, and non-partisan foundation dedicated to high-quality economic research, instruction, and communication. It is committed to pursuing independent inquiry into the workings of the economy, propagating the techniques for doing this, and communicating the results of analytical studies to the public.

IDEA works to educate the public on pertinent issues confronting society. Through technical expertise, rigorous analysis, innovative methodology, and effective communication, IDEA seeks to be a convincing voice in the arena of public policy debate. It seeks to be a source of credible and reliable information for policymakers, the business community, and the general public.

Corporate History

IDEA was conceptualized in 1998 by a group of faculty from the School of Economics and the School of Statistics of the University of the Philippines together with some friends from the private sector. They saw the need to establish a database foundation that will service the data needs of both schools and at the same time allow the faculty to do research while they are based in the University. IDEA was also envisioned as the link of the School of Economics and the School of Statistics to the private sector.

In June 1999, IDEA was finally incorporated as a non-stock, nonprofit organization with nine incorporators. IDEA started its operations in November 1999.

It is IDEA’s mission to provide reliable economic information for the business community, policymakers, the academe, and the general public. Hence, it aims:

- - to be the preferred source of industry studies (analysis, ratings, updates, forecasts);
  - to be a reliable resource for the current macroeconomic outlook;
  - to contribute to economic literature and information through instruction and research;
  - to assist decision-making by providing advisory services; and
  - to maintain a comprehensive database of relevant economic information.
