Hope this message finds everyone well rested and in good spirits following the holidays. I know the break was well needed for this parent and teacher! Even though for many of us the winter months represent a period of down time for most of our teams, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot of soccer and planning happening in the background in preparation for the coming spring season and summer tryouts that will immediately follow. Your board of directors is meeting on and planning for the registration of 18 Idaho Storm spring teams. With that many teams, we are working hard to add, transfer and register players to make sure we are ready to go this spring. Teams/players are practicing on their own, involved in futsal and indoor soccer, doing strength and agility training, or playing and competing in Idaho’s Olympic Development Program (ODP) teams. The club is also looking at placing several teams in Tournaments in St. George, UT and Las Vegas, NV in the middle of February. We are also actively looking for more practice facilities to ensure our teams have the space they need and getting new equipment for the club to support the addition of new teams. So, for some, it has been a very busy off-season! Word is out as Idaho Storm continues to grow our brand here in the valley and attract talent to our club. With that being said, please ensure that the Player Transfer guidelines are followed as outlined in Club Policies linked below. Enjoy the next couple of months before the spring season starts. It will be upon us before we know it!

One of the big changes to the sport of soccer this past year has been the additional training and certifications required of our coaches for the “Safe Sport” Initiative. This program has a dual mission. First, it helps to ensure that our youth athletes are able to compete in a physically and emotionally safe environment free from any form of abuse or misconduct. Secondly, it provides training and resources for coaches, refs, athletes and parents so that best practices will be followed by everyone involved in youth soccer. We are happy to report that as of December, Idaho Storm had nearly all of its coaches complete the certification program, and well ahead of the deadline set by IYSA. I extend thanks to Roman Burk, our founder and director of coaching for spearheading this campaign over the past six months and to our coaches who have promptly completed the requirements.
On the volunteer front, we couldn’t function as an organization without the many contributions of our volunteer coaches, managers and board members. We are still looking for someone to coordinate a fundraising event or two throughout the year that would augment the sales we get from businesses advertising with Idaho Storm. This will help keep our club fees affordably low as we move into the spring session and 2020-21 season. Contact either Michael Tetrault or Alyssa Reynolds (our co-presidents) if you think you would like to volunteer and help out in any capacity. As always, please remember to be considerate and appreciative of all our volunteers as we all work together to make Storm the best it can be.
Autumn is new to competitive soccer as one of our top players for Storm U10’s FIRE team. We are grateful for her innate competitive nature. She is one of two or our goalkeepers. She is extremely talented as a goalie! As coaches we have not seen a player so young be in the right place at he right time...always! Her cat like reflexes have helped prevent multiple shots from scoring. She loves to train and gives all she has all the time. When Autumn isn’t playing soccer, she also plays football. That has helped with her quickness both on the field and in the goal.
Autumn attends Meridian Elementary and is in 4th grade. Her favorite subject is writing. When she’s not playing soccer, football, or going to school, she loves arts and crafts and you may even find her and the local skate park trying some of her favorite skateboard tricks. Autumn always has a positive attitude and loves her soccer mates and coaches. Thank you Autumn for being a stellar player for Storm Fire!
Isaac Robertson, a critical part of the SURGE team defense as outside back, has been playing soccer since he was 6. Prior to joining Storm, he played with PAL and also honed a lot of his merciless defensive skills in Indoor Rec. A versatile player on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball, Isaac excels at outside back largely due to his excellent soccer IQ at his young age as well as his vision and heads up play on the field. Issac creates many plays for his midfield and offense, all game long. When not on the field, Issac attend Pioneer Middle School 4 days a week, and also Chaparral Middle School, for the GT program for 1 day a week. He loves school and gets excellent grades. As a budding Mathematician, he is a stand out 5th grader in an 8th grade math class. When not studying or getting in his touches, he has played in several other sports like hockey, basketball, lacrosse and gymnastics- but soccer is his #1. Like most boys his ages, he does enjoy playing video games with his siblings - he has 3 and we are told that he is an amazingly patient and kind big brother. His coaches see Issac as a very hard working, dedicated and extremely intelligent soccer player with much potential. He is a leader both on the field and in training, and he is always very kind and uplifting to his teammates (even his coaches!). Always a pleasure to coach, Issac is a massive part of the Storm SURGE team culture and we look forward to having him playing with us for many years to come. We are also excited for his pending adoption by his Stepdad and eventual name change to Isaac Samson in the coming year! We congratulate both Isaac and his Stepdad on this mementos event and look forward to celebrating it with him. Go STORM!!!
Spring season is here! We must have all players registered and uniforms fitted and purchased. Please see that registration is complete, uniforms ordered and all fees paid by January 31, 2020. Beyond this date, it will be difficult to place and register players. As we get registered and ready for spring season, it is important that all Storm teams be organized and ensure they allow plenty of lead time for registration. Brandy Suydam, our Registrar does an excellent job of helping us all stay organized and timely registered through IYSA. Storm utilizes the GotSoccer system to register our players, coaches, assistant coaches and team managers. Brandy is very busy with her work outside of volunteering for Storm in this capacity, so we ask that you respect her time and realize that response times may be delayed on certain days as she attends her other responsibilities. Brandy can be contacted at idahostormregistrar@gmail.com.
Mike Rich serves as our treasurer and handles all Club's finances. Our Club uses a software called Blue Sombrero to administer player accounts and billings. We still have balances due and need to collect those balances ASAP. We would ask that each of you log into your Blue Sombrero account by following this link and ensure that your account is fully paid and up to date. With such low Club fees charged, it is imperative that accounts be paid timely in order for us to cover fees and expenses (i.e., registration, fields, referees, IYSA, Equipment, etc.). A player that is behind on account payments will not be able to participate with the team at practices or games until payment is made or a payment plan is worked out with Mike. Payment methods accepted by Storm are as follows:
Venmo - @Storm-Soccer
Checks - made out to Storm and sent to Mike Rich @ 3430 S Osterley Pl, Eagle, ID 83616
Credit Cards - Blue Sombrero allows for payment via credit card, however, we are charged a 2.9% fee for credit card transactions
Mike can be contacted at mrich715@gmail.com.
In registering for the last few tournaments, we have had some problems with rosters not lining up with registered players/coaches and have been late on tournament fee payments and collections. To avoid some of these missteps, we ask that all teams that would like to register for tournaments please be organized and allow sufficient lead time for registration and payment. The process for signing up for tournaments is as follows:
1. Coaches determine, based on input from players and families, which tournaments their team will attend.
2. Ensure that the player commitments will allow for enough players each day of the tournament (including Sunday Play).
3. Send your roster to Brandy at least 3 weeks (5 weeks for State and Directors Cup) prior to the tournament to have her confirm roster accuracy.
4. Once approved by Brandy, sign up for the tournament.
5. Send roster, amount to be paid for tournament, and contact information for payment of fees to Mike Rich
6. Mike will take care of payment of the tournament fees from the Storm account and will divide the tournament fee by the number of rostered players and add assessments to player accounts in Blue Sombrero. An additional $1-$2 will be added to the assessments to cover credit card fees charged to Storm.
7. Player tournament fees should be paid prior to the tournament or the player will not be able to participate.
