Logistics and EXPECTATIONS

Format of the ICPS Robotics Engineering Class

Students will be provided orientation to the curriculum and do hands-on exercises in classes; however, they will be expected to go through the assigned learning material at their own pace outside of the class as well. To facilitate this, students will have their robot kits and the curriculum with them at home. While there will be considerable freedom and flexibility in completing the assigned tasks, all participants would be expected to complete them by milestone dates as posted. The goal is to ensure that all students are well-prepared with fundamentals by the beginning of the robot design project, so that they can work on designing, building, and programming their robots in a team.

This is an intense program and will demand full attention from students.

Communication

A teaching assistant will be available to answer any questions related to the content using online discussion forums or zoom. Certificates will be presented to the students upon successful completion of the program.

Expectations

  1. On the first day of class, each student will receive a robot kit along with learning material describing the parts and how they will be applied. Students need to confirm that they have received all the parts listed in the learning material.

  2. Each student will complete the activities and lessons as assigned by the teaching team and submit their work as code, photographs, videos, reports, etc. in google classroom, details of which will be provided later on.

  3. During the 12 weeks of this program, students will complete activities as assigned by the teaching team and post their work. A detailed schedule will be posted as classes progress. The in-person sessions will consist of a combination of teaching session, group presentation, discussion, Q&A, and live-coding and designing sessions. Full participation will be required from each student.

  4. The program will end with a robotics project finale, where each student will present their robot. Students who satisfactorily complete all the activities will receive a certificate of completion.

  5. All students will need access to a Windows/Mac computer with internet connection. They will also be asked to install certain open source software; therefore, if students have been loaned a computer from their school or elsewhere and do not have administrative access, they will need to make arrangements with their school to have software installed. Chrome books have not worked for students in the past.

  6. All students will also need a personal email account and be asked to sign up for google classroom in order to receive communications with the teaching team and for online participation.
