How does the online study work?

We teach using several distance learning formats:

- Viewing pre-recorded professional-quality videos with the demonstration of the process of making the icon on its various steps (grounding, drawing, painting, gilding, etc.).

- After viewing a video of one stage (e.g. 1st layer painting), the student is tutored by the instructor in a real-time live Zoon meeting. The instructor explains the technical details of what has been shown, answers possible questions, and leads the student through the process practically. Some meetings will be for a group and some individual. We meet for 10 live sessions. Each meeting is dedicated to a different stage of making the icon.

- Students are expected to follow the instructor and share photographs of the completed assignments with the instructor during the course. The instructor gives her feedback to students’ work within 24 hours (corrections, recommendations, etc.)

- Each live session is recorded and will be available during and after the course for private viewing by the participants.

The free days/weekends during the online course can be dedicated to individual exercises and ‘homework’, since some tasks need more time for their completion. Also, there is a possibility to arrange additional individual meetings with the instructor, if needed.

There is a possibility to attend only a short theoretical course Theology of the Icon: Selected Topics (2 academic credits, 15 hours).
