Poster presentation

During a poster presentation you will get the opportunity to shortly present the headlines of your research and afterwards discuss your work with members of the audience.

To prepare for a poster presentation, create a poster (A1 or A0 format). Your poster should contain the following sections: background, research question, method, results, conclusions, take-home messages, and keywords. Try to make the poster clear, structured, concise, and attractive. Avoid long texts and use diagrams, graphs, and/or tables to visualize your information effectively.

Presenters are asked to introduce their poster during a 3 minute pitch. After this short presentation the audience will roam around the room to discuss the posters with the presenters. The discussants and/or chair of the session will discuss both content and lay-out of the poster. With regard to the lay-out, the following points can be discussed:

  • The clarity of the poster (overall)

  • The extent to which the poster draws attention

  • The clarity of the textual information the poster conveys

  • The clarity of the graphical information the poster conveys

  • The originality of the design of the poster

Duration and set-up of a poster session

During the ICO Spring School, the posters will be grouped into themes as much as possible. Per session of 1 hours a maximum of 6 posters will be presented and discussed.

  • The session starts with a pitch by the presenters of the posters of ca. 3 minutes per poster. Afterwards, all posters will be discussed simultaneously, started by the appointed discussants.

  • The group can choose to divide the hour in to two sessions of 3 poster. In that case, after the first 30 minutes, 3 new posters will be pitched, followed by a discussion.

Send in your paper and abstract before 11 February, using the submission form.

If you wish to present a poster at the NSS, please send your paper (max. 1000 words in APA style, including references, in Word or PDF format) and a short abstract (max. 300 words). We will use your abstract to inform the Spring School-attendants about your presentation.

Use the submission form to enclose the document. Name your document "Last name"_"presentation type", like "VanDijk_Poster.pdf".

We will inform you about your chair/discussant in due time.
