The 8th International Conference on Nanostructuring by Ion Beams (ICNIB 2025) is being organized at the Saurashtra University, Rajkot from October 7-9, 2025, jointly with Inter University Accelerator Centre (IUAC), New Delhi. Energetic ions are increasingly playing a crucial role in nanostructuring and development of nanomaterials. Few keV energy ions in plasma have been used to grow nanoparticle thin films, whereas a few hundred keV ions from ion implanters are used to grow nanoparticles in a matrix. Higher MeV energy-heavy ions have also been used to grow and modify nanostructures. Ion beam irradiation induced synthesis and modification of nanostructures is the basic theme of this conference. The previous conferences in the series were organized at the University of Allahabad, Prayagraj (in 2011), Rajasthan University/MNIT, Jaipur (in 2013), St. John’s College/Agra College, Agra (in 2015), Devi Ahilya University, Indore (in 2017), Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam (in 2019), Institute of Physics (IOP), Bhubaneswar (in 2021) and University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) Dehradun (in 2023).
The conference will take place at the main campus of the Saurashtra University, Rajkot (Gujarat) INDIA. Rajkot is the capital of Saurashtra region and is the fourth largest city of Gujarat state having population of about 1.7 million. It is an educational and industrial hub of Gujarat; known for ceramic industries, foundries, kitchenware, gold and silver jewellery and oil industries. Geographically, it is centrally located in the Saurashtra region with Dwarika, the capital and abode of Lord Krishna about 250 kms away on west and Gir forest, the only habitat famous for ASIATIC Lions on 150 kms south and Somanath Temple of Lord Shiva Temple, the First “JYOTIRLINGH” in India, on 200 kms south.
Saurashtra University, establish in 1967 is one of the largest affiliating State universities of Gujarat State in the western India. It has more than 300 affiliated collages spread in five districts of Saurashtra region and 29 P.G. Departments on the 360 acres of lush green campus at Rajkot. Four Departments on the campus are supported under UGC- DSA SAP programme and three Departments are financially assisted under DST – FIST programme. University is running NEP-2020 framework for all the graduate and post graduate courses and has collaborations and linkages with many national and international institutes, universities, laboratories etc.
Department of Physics established in 1979 is a major science department of Saurashtra University. Till date more than 2000 M.Sc. Physics graduates have passed out from the department and more than 150 Ph.D. degrees have been awarded. Major thrust areas of research in the department are Experimental Condensed Matter Physics, Material Science, Space & Atmospheric Physics. Department is funded with DST-FIST (I) and UGC-SAP (III) schemes. It has a GUJCOST Center of Excellence in Nano materials.
Department of Nanoscience and Advanced Materials is a new department funded by Government of Gujarat to cater to the need of the students of Saurashtra region to learn about Nanoscience and Nanomaterials and to bridge the gap between university and industries of the state. Under this department, M.Sc. (Applied Physics) integrated course with specialization in Nanoscience & Nanotechnology is commenced from June 2016.
The airport code of Rajkot is HSR (Rajkot) and 35km away from the Saurashtra University Campus. Rajkot is connected by AIR with MUMBAI (Bombay) with FIVE flights a day and with NEW DELHI with ONE AIR INDIA FLIGHT. Another nearest airport is AHEMEDABAD situated 230 km from Rajkot, which is about four hour drive by Road. Rajkot is connected by trains to almost all corners of India including JAMMU, GAUWAHTI, PURI, KOLKATTA, RAMESHWARAM, TIRUVANTHPURAM, ERNAKULAM, BANGALORE, PUNE, MUMBAI, DELHI etc.
