The 7th International Conference on Nanostructuring by Ion Beams (ICNIB 2023) is being organized at the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) Dehradun from 2-4 November, 2023, jointly with Inter University Accelerator Centre (IUAC) New Delhi. Energetic ions are increasingly playing a crucial role in nanostructuring and development of nanomaterials. Few keV energy ions in plasma have been used to grow nanoparticle thin films, whereas a few hundred keV ions from ion implanters are used to grow nanoparticles in a matrix. Higher MeV energy-heavy ions have also been used to grow and modify nanostructures. Ion beam irradiation induced synthesis and modification of nanostructures is the basic theme of this conference. The previous conferences in the series were organized at the University of Allahabad, Prayagraj (in 2011), Rajasthan University/ MNIT, Jaipur (in 2013), St. John’s College/Agra College, Agra (in 2015), Devi Ahilya University, Indore (in 2017), Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam (in 2019), and Institute of Physics (IOP), Bhubaneswar (in 2021).

Topics that will be covered in the conference are:

Nano dots and ripples by ion-induced sputtering and diffusion

Nanostructure synthesis and modifications using energetic ions including plasma

Materials modifications in 2-D materials, nanoparticles, thin films, and multilayers

Venue:

The conference will take place at the main campus of the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), located in the stunning city of Dehradun. Dehradun is a true gem of natural beauty, situated in the Doon Valley on the foothills of the majestic Himalayas. The city is nestled between two beautiful rivers, the Song and the Asan, both of which are tributaries of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers respectively.

The science department at UPES is a part of School of Engineering. It has a team of highly acclaimed researchers as the faculty members having broad research areas including but not limited to material science, nanotechnology, applied optics, modeling & simulation, bio-fuels, composite materials, polymers, photo-catalysis, organic synthesis, solar cells, water treatment, optimization, fluid mechanics, image processing, numerical analysis, differential geometry, etc. The department has carried out and completed successfully a large number of research and consultancy projects funded by national (DST, BPCL, IOCL, DST-SERB) and international (ABB) organizations. The department has access to several state-of-the-art student labs and research-grade instruments for performing high-end research. Department is closely working with various international collaborating partners from Germany, Japan, Slovenia, Switzerland, USA, etc. in several research areas of mutual interest. The faculty members of the department have been recognised by various academic bodies within and outside India and have received prestigious awards and fellowships.

Travel Information

UPES is located 40 km from the Jolly Grant airport of Dehradun which has connectivity from all the major airports of India, and 15 km from the Dehradun railway station. Dehradun is 250 km from the Indian capital New Delhi and can be reached by flight, train or bus.
