Before joining IT Convergence Engineering Department of Hansung University in 2019, I had worked for Samsung Research for more than 10 years. There, I played a role as a project leader for NPUs (neural processing units) specially designed SRP (Samsung Reconfigurable Processor) utilized in image/voice recognition and super resolution. I also participated in direct development of simulators and compilers for NPU architecture. In advance of NPU development, I carried out project leader and development of Android Framework, Linux kernel's system resource management, and system-wide diagnostics tools. The reason why I was able to do these things is that I had studied in RTOS Lab. at Seoul National University on optimizing the scheduler and memory management of Linux kernel during my Ph.D. Before Android and Linux kernel work, research and development were carried out mainly using real-time OSes such as Nucleus and pSOS, device driver, behavioral simulators for mobiles and firmwares for ARM processors. In addition to these System SW field studies, I was responsible for CDMA 2000 Modem SoC development, namely SoC internal IP design. Prior to joining Samsung Electronics, I spent three years researching and developing optical communication system using the SDH protocol at LG Electronics' Access Network R&D institute.
Both R&D experiences in Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have changed a lot in my life and have given me a lot of knowledge and teaching. The biggest asset I have now in guiding our students and the source of differentiated education are from the years of experience in both two R&D centers.
