Using simple English, Intercultural Communication for English Learners offers an introduction to the basic concepts in intercultural communication. The goal is to develop basic-to-intermediate-level English learners’ capacity to communicate with the world, particularly with other nonnative English speakers; in other words, English as a lingua franca (ELF). This book presents the results of an integrated research project funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The research project explored how multilingual and multimodal online exchanges could be incorporated into foreign language education. In the past, monolingualism dominated foreign language education with each national language being taught and learned separately. However, in reality using several languages has become more normal in Taiwan.
這本書以中英日三種語言呈現三年多的科技部整合型計畫研究結果,從多語言多模態的線上跨國交流來切入外語教育,在全球化持續衝擊外語學習方式與目的的前提下,提供外語教育相關學者老師等一個不同的視角,過去外語教育都是各語言分開,單一語言的思維,然而現實中,多語言逐漸成為常態,在台灣,英日文是本地語言以外最常使用的兩個語言,因此以中英日三種語言為媒介的線上交流是本書的核心。
