The aim of the International Centre of Excellence for Education in Mathematics (ICE-EM) is to strengthen education in the mathematical sciences at all levels from school to advanced research and contemporary applications in industry and commerce. These new, full-colour editions of the original ICE-EM Mathematics series have been rewritten and developed for the Australian Mathematics Curriculum, while retaining the structure and approach of the original titles. ICE-EM is funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Education, Science and Training. It is managed by the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute, a consortium of 27 university mathematics departments, CSIRO Mathematical and Information Sciences, the Australian Bureau of Statistics and the Australian Mathematics Trust.

Developed by the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI), ICE-EM Mathematicshelps students of all abilities to understand and master mathematics beyond the curriculum while building strong foundation skills.

The ICE-EM Mathematics series develops a clear understanding of mathematical ideas and concepts for students with a range of abilities, needs and levels of interest. This new, full-colour series has been rewritten and developed for the Australian mathematics curriculum, while retaining the structure, depth and approach of the first edition. It covers all of the required content, as well as additional topics that are relevant and essential for a robust understanding of the subject. Spanning Years 5-10, the series has been developed to provide a coherent and solid development of mathematics ideas to support the transition from Primary to Secondary schooling.

Hi fellow redditors, I intend to teach myself mathematics to a year 12 VCE student standard from nothing. Since my teacher gave up on me during 4th grade, my mathematics ability has since been stunted and fading overtime. I have always said I hate maths, I'm bad at maths. I realized however, that I just never properly learned it. So I would appreciate if you could give your opinion/ advice and especially which domains of maths you think are most important? Also any resources would be highly appreciated. I hope this post is relevant if not I will try on another subreddit. Thank you

The significance of human actions upon observed global warming patterns is the topic of much debate in the media, politics, and popular culture. In the past sixty years, average winter temperatures in the Arctic region have increased by nearly seven degrees Fahrenheit. Significant change, both qualitative and quantitative, has been observed in the structure of Arctic ice sheets. Some climate models even predict that by 2013 the Arctic region will be entirely free of ice in the summer months. Land that has been frozen solid year-round in the past has now been freed for agriculture. The changes occurring in the Arctic region are stunning and, if climate models are to be believed, likely to continue and perhaps even accelerate in the coming years.

The young people of today will inevitably be drawn into the process of adapting to this reality. Global warming, and mankind's response to it, will truly be one of the defining issues of their lives. It is therefore important that young people are exposed to the types of opportunities and challenges that will emerge in the coming years. With climate models predicting continued increases in temperature, the question of how humanity as a whole is to come to terms with a warming world will only become more salient with the passage of time. Far from being confined to any one region, this question will come to dominate all levels of human society in all areas of the globe. Individuals, governments, and global institutions will all have to play a role in adapting - economically, politically, and socially - to an uncertain and precarious future. ff782bc1db
