About the Regional Institute of Education, Bhubaneswar

The Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Bhubaneswar is a constituent unit of National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi. The NCERT was set up by Government of India in 1961 as an autonomous organization registered under Societies Registration Act (Act XXI of 1860) to advise and assist the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India and Departments of Education in States and Union Territories in formulation and implementation of their policies and programmes in the field of Education. The NCERT provides academic and technical support for improvement of School Education through its constituent units. Besides Regional Institute of Education, Bhubaneswar, the other constituent units of NCERT are:

The RIE, Bhubaneswar is equipped with all infrastructure facilities including Computer Application Centre and Video-conferencing Hall. The Institute offers innovative Pre-service Professional Training Programmes to prepare School Teachers and Teacher Educators of Elementary Training Institutes. The Institute is actively engaged in In-service Teacher Education Programmes catering to the needs of Eastern states and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It also provides expertise for programmes organized by the states under its jurisdiction and other educational agencies like SCERTs, DIETs, SIEMAT, DPEP, SSA. The Institute is also engaged in Research and Developmental activities in different areas of school education.

All the programmes of the Institute are geared to keep pace with the changing educational needs of the region at school level.
