Spring is here to remind us that early next month Kartika starts.
Thursday 5th October is Purnima -full moon and Sri Krsna Saradiya Rasayatra - The first night of Kartik also known as SRI KRSNA SARADIYA RASAYATRA - Sharad Purnima.
What do we need to know about Kartik?
The pastime of Krsna Saradiya Rasayatra (also known as Sharad purnima) as it is described in the 10th canto of the Srimad Bhagavatam.
Lord Kṛṣṇa saw the unbroken disk of the full moon glowing with the red effulgence of newly applied vermilion, as if it were the face of the goddess of fortune.
Under the section on 'Prabhupada said', there is a very useful list of analogies for preachers.
Under 'Useful Information' - see Kartik requirements
Be sure to visit the section 'ISKCON Temples and Deities' for details on the newest Sri Sri Radha Vrindavan Chandroya Mandir

May 2017
Bolo Hari!
It's Lord Nrsimhadeva's Appearance Day on Tuesday 9th May in Cape Town, and that means we fast until dusk - the actual time when he appeared from the pillar. We pray to him for protection from danger and also to help us destroy our anarthas:
Anarthas, unwanted things, come down from one bodily life to another. To get out of this entanglement, one has to take to the devotional service of Lord Vāsudeva, Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
(Srimad Bhagavatam 4:29:36-37 purport).
Anartha means unnecessary. We are creating unnecessary necessities of life and becoming entangled. This is material life.(Lecture on Srimad Bhagavatam 1:5:12-13).
Advancement of material vision or material civilization is a great stumbling block for spiritual advancement. Such material advancement entangles the living being in the bondage of a material body followed by all sorts of material miseries. Such material advancement is called anartha, or things not wanted.
(Srimad Bhagavatam 1:8:27 purport).
You may find it interesting to know that Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Prabhupada gave the following Kavacha for the protection of sannyasis he had send to the west: Sri Nrisimha Kavacha of the Trailokya Vijaya in the Samhita of Brahma.
You will find it in the section of ISKCON Gurus.

APRIL 2017
Hari Bol.
Rama Navami is coming up on Wednesday the 5th April with Kamada Ekadasi (for Cape Town) on Dvadasi Friday the 7th April. Break fast will be on Saturday the 8th between 7.03 and 10.53. Not everyone realises that the dates for Ekadasi differ throughout the country and indeed the world. In Prabhupada's days there was one calendar and everyone followed that. The importance of breaking the fast the following day is also calculated exactly and very important to follow particularly if one has fasted.
It was mentioned recently by Hari Parshad Das, that we should change the phrase to rather say: "Thus, the term vrata-pāraṇam literally means 'successful completion of vows’.
We’re not supposed to break our vows. We’re meant to complete them."
Very apt.

MARCH 2017
Hare Krishna!
We are building up for Guara Purnima 531 this Sunday the 12th March with exciting activities at the Temple, from stalls outside, to abhishek, class by H.H. Bhakti Caru Swami to many other interesting events. Please note fasting will only break at Moon rise which in Cape Town will be 19.15. In addition we will be breaking with Ekadasi-type preps as the real break in the fast will be on Monday morning when normal food may then be eaten.
It will be nice to see everyone.
