IN LINE with the Online Distance Learning (ODL) setup, the Physical Education (P.E.) Department has rigorously prepared and made adjustments to the curriculum for this school year that will best fit the interests and wellness of the ICAns.
The department’s preparations for the new setup commenced last May. Considering the space and equipment students may have at home, this school year’s curriculum focuses mainly on exercise and dance in order to ensure the students’ participation in P.E. class. One of the biggest challenges for the P.E. Department this year is the lack of real-time feedback, as teachers may only provide this once students submit their outputs, even when activities are done during synchronous classes. Additionally, the stability of the internet for both students and teachers poses another difficulty.
Despite these obstacles, the department aims to provide the students thoroughly planned physical activities to encourage them to adapt a healthy and fit lifestyle in this ODL setup. Ms. Montemayor remarks, “The P.E. program is crucial, because it is the only time students get to engage in physical movements, since most of the time, the students are left sitting in front of their devices to accomplish their other tasks. P.E. is a good ‘brain and body’ break to help them destress, improve wellness, and maintain homeostasis.”
