About

Aalap Trivedi (he/il) is an editor of exclusively nonfiction material. He edits textbooks and learning materials for the skilled trades as well as other adult educational content. He also edits scholarly and trade books and academic content in the fields of economics, international relations, business studies and social, economic and legal history.

Aalap is a Certified Proofreader and an active member of Editors Canada. He is also an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP).

Erin Brenner (she/her) is the author of The Chicago Guide for Freelance Editors, a step-by-step guide that helps editors launch a freelance business and grow it to a sustainable level. She offers coaching and webinars to help editors on their journey to a business they love.

She is also the owner of Right Touch Editing, an editorial agency that specializes in business copy. Right Touch Editing helps clients reach their publishing goals with proven writing and editing services.

Erin was the long-time coordinator of the Freelancers' Happy Hour, which takes place ahead of the annual in-person ACES conference. The happy hour connects freelance editors, giving them an opportunity to see old friends, make new ones, and win one of the many generously donated raffle prizes. She is also the former co-owner of Copyediting, a training company for copyeditors that offered in-person workshops, webinars, and publications.

Janet MacMillan provides compassionate, good-humoured, and pragmatic professional editing services for a wide variety of nonfiction clients. She helps her clients to communicate their message in clear, plain English, ensuring that their work is accessible to their audience. Many of her clients are multilingual authors.

Her primary fields of work are law and law-related topics (she was a lawyer for 20 years in her past), international development and aid, modern history, politics, and education materials.

She is a member of Editing Globally, an international editing collective who work globally, across time zones and in a variety of Englishes.

Janet is committed to advancing the profile of professional editors, mentoring and volunteerism within the profession.  She has taught editing courses in the Queen’s University Professional Studies Editing Standards Certificate programme and is an experienced presenter of seminars, webinars, and conference sessions on editing, proofreading, and the publishing industry generally.

She is an experienced conference organizer, having co-organized the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (then the Society for Editing and Proofreading) 2018 and 2019 mini-conferences in Toronto and been on the conference organizing team for the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) annual 2021 conference.

She is the co-coordinator of the CIEP’s Canada local group, the co-ordinator of the CIEP’s legal special interest group, and for many years was the coordinator of Cloud Club West. From October 2022 to February 2024, she was the CIEP’s professional standards director.

She is a past recipient of the Editors Canada President’s Award for Volunteer Services for her work on the Toronto and national Editing Canada mentoring programs.

Janet is an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading and a Full Member of ACES.

Marieke Krijnen (she/her) is an academic copyeditor, helping scholars in the social sciences and humanities express their ideas in clear, consistent and precise terms. She’s an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) and is also a member of ACES: The Society for Editing.

Before becoming a copyeditor, Marieke (co-)organized several academic workshops and conferences in Belgium and Lebanon, and she was also a volunteer for the 2022 CIEP conference.

She obtained an MA in Middle East Studies from the American University of Beirut and a PhD in Political Science from Ghent University, Belgium. She has a background in Arabic and urban studies as well. After completing her first postdoc (again in Beirut), she decided to start her own academic editing business and never looked back. She has since undergone extensive training in copyediting and worked with dozens of academic clients.

When she is not editing, Marieke enjoys taking long train trips, learning the language of the country she is currently living in with her academic husband and son (Poland), and occasionally playing the violin.

Sara finds joy in working with authors from diverse backgrounds to develop and hone their unique voice in English. A former language teacher with a PhD in literary translation, she specializes in editing and translating texts across the humanities and social sciences. Her translation of Hiroshi Mitani’s Japan’s Meiji Revolution: Restoration and Reform in a Global Context (Springer) will be published in 2026.

Sara is active in the global editing and translation community. She coordinated volunteers for IPEd’s 2019 editors’ conference and the program for JAT’s 2026 International Japanese-English Translation Conference (IJET-34). She was the PD and social media coordinator for Editors NSW, co-chair of IPEd’s Standing Committee on Professional Development, and a judge for the Rosanne Fitzgibbon Editorial Award. She is now a judge for World History Encyclopedia’s Ink of Ages Fiction Prize.

Sara is particularly passionate about bringing together wordsmiths from around the world. She co-hosts a monthly networking group for CIEP members in the Asia Pacific and has hosted many other networking events privately and for associations.

As honing her human skills has become a priority in this AI era, Sara has been fine-tuning her nose and palate with the Wine Spirits Education Trust (WSET). She has (so far) studied German, Mandarin, Italian, Russian, French, Spanish, and Ancient Greek, but she also enjoys chatting with the wild animals who visit her outdoor office in Melbourne, Australia.
