Skyline IB begins with a Pre-IB program for grades 9 and 10, which focuses on preparing students for the formal stage of the IB Diploma Program during their 11th and 12th grade years.
The Skyline Pre-IB Program is intended for students who are interested in earning an IB Diploma at Skyline. Students submit an Skyline IB Application along with their most recent report card and a short essay explaining why they feel IB would be a good fit for them. They work with their IB Coordinators and counselor to develop a potential four-year education plan that set them up for success in high school and beyond. The goal of the Pre-IB program is for students to explore their academic interests through their course selections, work on fulfilling their State Graduation Requirements, and strengthen social-emotional and study skills while they become familiar with Skyline's IB Program and the IB Learner Profile traits.
The Skyline IB Diploma Program is completed during a student's 11th and 12th grade years. Students will work with their counselor and IB coordinator to create a Diploma schedule which optimizes their areas of interest and skills by choosing 3 or 4 two-year Higher Level Courses and 2 or 3 one-year Standard Level Courses, (some SL classes last 2 years). Students will take exams at the end of their junior year (SL only) and senior year (SL and HL ). They will also enroll in a required Theory of Knowledge class, complete an Extended Essay as seniors, and engage in CAS (Creativity, Activity, and Service) goal creation and engagement over their junior and senior years.
