I started my studies in the English Language Education program at Universitas Negeri Jakarta in late August 2022. Now, as I approach the final semester and begin writing my undergraduate thesis, I can reflect on the many skills I have gained throughout this journey. I have developed my basic language skills—reading, listening, speaking, and writing—for both general communication and academic purposes. Alongside this, I have studied grammar, linguistics, and literature, which deepened my understanding of how language works.
Since this program is education-based, I have also learned about pedagogy, including teaching strategies and how to develop learning materials. In addition, there were courses focused on designing e-learning platforms, which expanded my perspective on digital education. Among all these experiences, the skill I have practiced most often is writing—whether in creating learning materials, drafting motivational or even poetic words, or completing academic essays. As a result, many of my projects take the form of written work, particularly essays.
Looking back, I realize how much these experiences shaped not only my knowledge but also my identity as both a writer and a future teacher. Academic training has taught me discipline, structure, and precision in writing, while pedagogy has trained me to think about clarity, creativity, and how learning materials can serve others. I found myself enjoying the process of transforming abstract ideas into tangible works—whether in the form of essays, teaching modules, or motivational writing. This reflection also leads me to consider expanding my path: not only in education but also in the broader field of writing, content development, and communication.
Alongside my academic journey, I also practice AI-assisted writing. By experimenting with crafting prompts in ChatGPT, I discovered how technology can complement my writing process. It helps me brainstorm, refine clarity, and approach topics from different perspectives. More importantly, this practice has taught me adaptability: how to interact with evolving digital tools while still keeping my own voice and purpose. This additional skill connects well with both of my passions—writing and teaching—since it opens up opportunities to create innovative learning materials and professional content in the future.
