Program

The programme includes presentations and group discussions along the following five themes:

Theme 1: The modern and future silica cycle

This theme uses isotopes in silica to explore how silica is cycled in the ocean and on land today, and how current global change may influence these cycles in the future. It will include terrestrial and marine talks.

Theme 2: Proxy and Analytical Developments

This theme explores developments in analytical techniques and methods that extend our collective ability to measure a variety of isotopes in biogenic silica, including Si, O, B, and Ba.

Theme 3: Palaeoreconstructions using biogenic silica

This theme showcases applications of isotopic proxies to reconstruct changes in environment and silica cycle in the geological past. 

Theme 4: Diagenetic processes and biogenic silica alteration

This theme looks at the alteration of biogenic silica – be it interrogating the fidelity of isotopic signatures in the rock record, or investigating the importance of biogenic silica as a substrate in global biogeochemical cycling reactions.
