2.12.5 Evaluate the effect of media on personal and family health.

2.12.6 Evaluate the impact of technology on personal, family, and community health.

2.12.7 Analyze how the perceptions of norms influence healthy and unhealthy behaviors.

2.12.8 Analyze the influence of personal values and beliefs on individual health practices and behaviors.

2.12.9 Analyze how some health risk behaviors can influence the likelihood of engaging in unhealthy behaviors.

2.12.10 Analyze how public health policies and government regulations can influence health promotion and disease prevention.

Family

Primary social group. You learn most of your behaviors (physical activity, nutrition, eating behaviors, coping mechanisms, etc.) from them (Thomas, 2017).

Culture

Plays a role in social norms, traditions, and practices. Shapes perceptions on health, illness, beliefs, and approaches to healthcare.

Peers

The presence of peers increases the likelihood an individual will take risks.

School/Community

A space to be exposed to different cultures, traditions, and can help an individual grow to a global contributor.

Media and Technology

Media can influence perceptions of beauty, political and social views, and health. This is a growing issue due to the sheer amount of information, true, false, or in-between, available at our fingertips. With social media being a primary source of information for many, it is vital to understand how it can influence us and how we can use it properly.

In 2019, the Pew Research Center found that over half of Americans (54%) either got their news "sometimes" or "often" from social media, and Facebook was the most popular social media site where American adults got their news (Shearer, 2019).
