Grade 1 Curriculum:

Language Program

• Reading:

  • • Apply foundational knowledge and skills to understand a variety of texts  

    • Apply comprehension strategies before, during, and after reading, listening to, and viewing a variety of texts

• Writing:

  • • Plan, develop ideas, gather information, and organize content for creating texts of various forms, on a variety of topics 

    • Apply knowledge and understanding of various text forms and genres to create, revise, edit, and proofread their own texts, and reflect on created texts 

• Oral: 

  • •  Apply listening and speaking skills and strategies to understand and communicate meaning in formal and informal contexts and for various purposes and audiences 

Math Program:

• Demonstrate an understanding of numbers and how are they used in everyday life

• Use knowledge of numbers and operations to solve mathematical problems encountered in everyday life 

• Identify, describe, extend, create, and make predictions about a variety of patterns, including those found in real-life contexts 

• Demonstrate an understanding of variables, expressions, equalities, and inequalities, and apply this understanding in various contexts 

• Solve problems and create mathematical situations using coding concepts and skills 

• Manage, analyse, and use data to make convincing arguments and informed decisions, in various contexts drawn from real life 

• Describe the likelihood that events will happen, and use that information to make predictions 

• Describe and represent shape, location, and movement by applying geometric properties and spatial relationships in order to navigate the world around them  

• Compare, estimate, and determine measurements in various contexts 

• Demonstrate an understanding of the value of Canadian currency

Grade 2 Curriculum:

Language Program

  • • demonstrate an understanding of sentence structure, grammar, cohesive ties, capitalization, and punctuations, and apply this knowledge when reading and writing sentences, paragraphs, and a variety of texts 

    • apply knowledge and understanding of various text forms and genres to create, revise, edit, and proofread their own texts, using a variety of media, tools, and strategies, and reflect critically on created texts 

• Oral: 

  • • Apply listening and speaking,skills and strategies to understand and communicate meaning in formal and informal contexts and for various purposes and audiences
