AP have turned into my new favorite photo editor application that is out there. I've been using since Jan 2020 and it completely replaced the Adobe buggy program. But there's some features that I miss using on AP, like the filter gallery.

I somewhat vaguely recall that it used to work in an earlier version of Photo on MacOS Mountain Lion. But I could be wrong.

On El Capitan, I can see the Filter Gallery from PS CS5.1 in the Filters > Plugins > Effects menu but it's grayed out. In fact, no PS filter works for me.

Unfortunately Affinity Photo doesn't directly support a built-in 'filter gallery', my apologies. This is something our developers hope to add in the future, however we cannot provide a timescale for this at this time

In the meantime, you might want to check out the Tone Map persona (shown around 3:30 in this tutorial) - which can add certain tonal creative looks to an image, but will not allow for the more 'artistic' looks, such as Coloured Pencil, Watercolour, Rough Pastels etc.

Macros are a predetermined set of steps that another user (or yourself!) has recorded against a document. When 'playing back' the Macro, the steps you recorded will automatically be performed on your open document. This means you can add multiple adjustment and filter layers to an image with one click and these adjustments/filters/blend modes etc can be set to create the 'artistic' looks you're hoping to achieve.

Also I would be really happy if in the near future, maybe in version 2 of photo more creative filters, similar to in Photoshop, would give. I miss it very much and the many free and paid filter programs I find a matter of taste or not as effective as these filters work destructive and you can not change the parameters back or subsequently. Especially you should be easier to use, so without any formula writers, as the filter synthesized textures is the case. Is far too complicated for beginners and too, these textures are always the same and not as coincidentally in Photoshop on the principle, so that the textures always apply to each other.

I totally get where you are coming from, but stick with Affinity, it looks like artistic filters will appear at some stage. One of the brilliant things in Affinity is that many of the filters can be 'Live'. If you go in through the Layer menu to New Live Filter you'll see what I mean. I know the Macros and Procedural Textures can be daunting, but you should be able to find many examples on the forum which you can either download or copy and paste. You only have to set up a macro once and you have a one-click filter.

Through A LOT of perservence and experimenting I have discovered just how powerful the Procedural Texture in particular is and I have managed to create chalk, watercolour, oil paint, acrylic and other macros, all of which give a better result than the Photoshop artistic filters that I have relied on for decades.

I'm working on a website and I have a lot of photos in different sizes to use. The client already worked on some photos in canva and applied a warm photo filter called Bali. They want me to keep using the same filter for consistency. Problem is, as canva allows you to resize your canvas, it doesn't allow different sizes within the same project. And creating a new project for each photo is a pain in the ass. Is there a way to recreate the Bali photo filter in photoshop? And if there is, can someone please share the steps to do so?

Anyway, we are all know the importance of making great pictures of our products. I noticed that using filters help to enhance photos. I tried, but I noticed when I use filter from some free apps, the filter will also change the color from my product which I did not wish to do. A friend told me, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is a good investment, but to be honest i'm still considering the subcription fee for this, maybe later. Is there any suggestion of any free apps we can use the filter to enhance our photos without changing the color from our products. Thank you for sharing.

diddo - I dont use the filters just the option to lighten the background is the image is too dark. don't mess too much with your photo, peoples monitors already do that for you without having a filter adding to the confusion. your customer may end up feeling the color wasn't the same at all and ask to return it

MY PC is in the shop, my laptop's built in photo edit program is frozen so lately I have been trying just for the best pic I can get on my phone and not editing beyond a crop or rotate. I could use GIMP or whatever but it is a lot of extra steps for a OOAK vintage listing.

I use Corel Photoshop - About $98.00. GIMP is similar and free, but both have a learning curve. If the color changes, you have the brightness set too high. I crop my photos to a uniform size, then apply lightness and contrast, as needed. You can adjust lightness on most cell phones, if that is what you are using to take pictures, and most cell phones take excellent pictures.

But so many of these photography filters have been tossed aside for post-processing tools. Rightfully so, in most cases. In my opinion, there are only a few photography filters vital to modern day landscape photography. These are the ones I never leave home without!

My Name is Joshua Snow, I am a Fine Art landscape and Night Photographer born in the Appalachian Mountains but raised in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate NY. In 2012 I had reached a weight of over 400lbs and during my journey of weight loss I discovered Photography and re-discovered the creativity that I had locked away while pursuing a career in Mechanical Engineering in the Aerospace field. Fast-forward to 2016 and a life-changing trip to Moab, my girlfriend and I decided we would do whatever it took to live here so that I could pursue my dreams of creating art, traveling the southwest and educating on photography. After a month, we had found a house, jobs and a sustainable future! Now I lead Photography workshops full time, all over the southwest, and here in Moab. My passions are creating art, traveling and teaching. I like to show people how connecting with a landscape can help make you a better photographer just by being there! On my workshops I help you see composition, pre- visualize a scene all the way through to the finished image, post processing from basics to advanced Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, basic through advanced camera and capture techniques and a whole lot more. I specialize in advanced capture and processing techniques that can help elevate a photo to a work of art, that encompasses your vision, and creativity, but welcome photographers of all skill levels!

The Posterize filter lets you specify the number of tonal levels (or brightness values) for each channel in an image. It then maps pixels to the closest matching level. For example, choosing two tonal levels in an RGB image gives six colors, two for red, two for green, and two for blue.

This command is useful for creating special effects, such as large, flat areas in a photograph. Its effects are most evident when you reduce the number of gray levels in a grayscale image. But it also produces interesting effects in color images.

If you want a specific number of colors in yourimage, convert the image to grayscale and specify the number oflevels you want. Then convert the image back to the previous colormode, and replace the various gray tones with the colors you want.

TheThreshold filter converts grayscale or color images into high-contrast,black-and-white images. You can specify a certain level as a threshold. All pixels lighter than the threshold are converted to white; andall pixels darker are converted to black. The Threshold commandis useful for determining the lightest and darkest areas of an image.

The Photo Filter command mimics the technique of putting a colored filter in front of the camera lens. A colored filter adjusts the color balance and color temperature of the light transmitted through the lens and exposing the film. The Photo Filter command also lets you choose a color preset to apply a hue adjustment to an image. If you want to apply a custom color adjustment, the Photo Filter command lets you specify a color using the Adobe Color Picker.

Color conversion filters that tune the white balance in animage. If an image was photographed at a lower color temperatureof light (yellowish), the Cooling Filter (80) makes the image colors bluerto compensate for the lower color temperature of the ambient light. Conversely,if the photo was taken at a higher color temperature of light (bluish), theWarming Filter (85) makes the image colors warmer to compensatefor the higher color temperature of the ambient light.

Apply a hue adjustment to the image depending on the color presetyou choose. Your choice of color depends on how you're using thePhoto Filter command. If your photo has a color cast, you can choosea complement color to neutralize the color cast. You can also applycolors for special color effects or enhancements. For example, theUnderwater color simulates the greenish-blue color cast caused whenphotographing underwater.

Besides not polarized and polarized, you can also meet in the middle; just a little bit of polarization. It can prevent from removing the water completely. After all, you want to show the water most of the times.

I exchanged the Lee Landscape Polarizer for the smaller magnetic Kase system. It works very easy and is less vulnarable because its size. Because its magnetic, changing the filter from one lens to another is very easy.
