I am beyond thrilled to report that all of the I-LYA programs who were on the call have found a way to adapt their programs to enable junior sailing this summer! This is the best news we could possibly ask for. Each region will have plenty of race teams when the time comes where we are allowed to have mass gatherings greater than 10 to support a small inter-club, inter-region racing. (Per item 3 below I believe that will be mid-July) Fingers crossed that we can have an actual regatta toward the end of July, if we all continue to do our part to keep socially distanced, masks/buffs when necessary, and washing our hands and sanitizing our boats! Best wishes as you all embark on this unusual but very important year of junior sailing. THANK YOU for making this effort. It will not go unnoticed by your parents and your juniors.

On the call (or reporting in prior): Alum, Buckeye Lake, Cowan, CYC, ECSC, Edgewater, Erie, Foundry, Gross Isle, Hoover, MHYC, NCYC, PCYC, PIBYC, SJRT, VBC

Tips from I-LYA Clubs:

-Mark docks with 6' reminders, try to encourage use of multiple docks for different groups to keep them separate during breaks/recovery.

-Pull boats apart so that the kids are not on top of each other while rigging.

-Have the instructors pull all of the equipment out of the sheds and place near boats (assign specific rudder/tiller/sail to specific boat and keep it assigned for the session). Reduces congestion inside sheds and fewer touchpoints.

-Check at gate for equipment - water, lifejacket, lunch (if applicable), sunscreen, anything that can't be shared/borrowed but will be needed

-Assign specific boats to 1-3 groups of kids (sanitize in between use)

-Backpack sprayer - with bleach/water solution or hydrogen peroxide/water solution is cheaper and better for environment than a lot of commercial grade sanitizers.

-NO Lost and Found - everything must go home every night.

-If you offer cubbies, pre-assign them - and spread them out, so when one group is in, they are not on top of each other. Empty every night and spray down.

---

-Don't let your groups of 10 mix with other groups, at all, for now for contact tracing. Also ask participants and instructors to keep track of all of the people they interact with outside of camp during their sessions.

-Masks/Buffs on shore when rigging, otherwise when outside can be off if sitting apart, and on water they can come down. BTW - We recommend buffs - our instructor lost his mask on the water when it was dangling around his neck (-tied off)

-Temp taking in car before the kid gets out (if possible) so if there is an issue they aren't stuck on property

-Behavior Contract - emphasize the privilege it is to be able to offer this program, no tolerance for misbehavior, COVID rule following (distance, masks, etc)

-----

-Start small to test the concepts out

-Shorter programs are smart to offer this year - parents may just want to try it out before going all in

-If 1-week program consider making it a 4-day program with a 5th optional for rain date

-If 1/2 day program - consider novice/beginners in one session, more advanced in other.

-Private lessons are a great concept to try (3 hours is a good session length).

-Lot of your former instructors/now college kids are looking for work because internships are gone, may be able to do the private lessons for you at night/weekends when boats are not in use.

---

-Some clubs are not allowing non-members to participate.

-Some clubs are only using Laser and Opti, no 420 or thistle this year.

-Some clubs are using 420/FJ either with singlehanded rigging OR with siblings or pairs/friends with parent signoff.

-Parent sign-off or have them create their own cohorts/quaranteams of pairs or 4 kids

-Club dinghy sailing nights - either racing or family nights - are starting up. (I forgot to mention MHYC is going to have a "College Night" for our former juniors who want to get out on the 420s, thistle, etc. starting in late June.)

-In Cleveland - Foundry is offering T/Th night 6-8:30 dinghy night.
